I have seven years of Latin and English experience, between a Classics degree from the top university in Texas and a burgeoning career as a high school teacher. Classics is an intensive program based around language, history, art, archaeology, and a LOT of research and writing. My greatest strength is in Latin; my strongest interests are history, literature, and archaeology. I have also studied ancient Greek, Japanese, and German, and spent most of my time in school doing careful and precise translations and research papers, along with some freelance editing, so I have a very precise grasp of grammar and structure. I spend time tailoring my classes to my students' strengths and interests. I believe in making learning fun, because enjoyment encourages a student to work more than anything, and I also believe in explaining concepts so that students understand WHY things are the way they are, instead of just memorizing inexplicable facts and rules. My Classics degree allows me to speak with authority on the historical and cultural backgrounds to tie subjects together, and I enjoy creating and playing games to drill information. High school students have liked me as a teacher because I am not far removed from their generation, so I can discuss the games and shows they enjoy and connect it back to our subject matter. Younger students enjoy my cheerful personality, and older students respect my intelligence and breadth of knowledge. Besides this, I honestly love the subject matter, and that passion can reach the students and help them to love it as well.
