I teach piano, voice, guitar, trumpet, saxophone and drums. I have been teaching music at The Rugby School at Woodfield for 18 years. The children and adults (ages 6 - 21) that attend the Rugby School are classified with multiple learning disabilities. During my tenure there, I have had the pleasure of watching a disabled vocal student win New Jersey Governor’s Awards in Arts Education in Music , students compete against mainstream school districts in Monmouth County Teen Arts and beat them on Piano and Guitar, and compete in statewide songwriting competitions for Arbor Day and Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey, and be WINNERS as well as finalists.
Many times, by the time students come to The Rugby School, they have experienced a pattern of negative reinforcement; only receiving attention when they’ve done something wrong. So when I”m in a lesson, I have a habit of making every small move forward, is a huge deal. Positive reinforcement works!
I play piano every Friday and Saturday from 7pm-11pm to entertain guests.Sometimes I have to learn a song during a 10 minute period between sets by listening to the recording. I also have to possess a vast repertoire to please any age group.
I teach music to classified students at an alternative special education school. I must complete lesson plans according to New Jersey core curriculum content standards. Their ages range from K-12. Piano, guitar, drums, voice, trumpet, violin and music technology are taught in individual and small group sessions.
I create original arrangements for students when necessary. I have planned and oversaw music trips and recitals.
Student Accomplishments Included:
Students attained State Teen Arts adjudications while competing against mainstream public schools from Monmouth County, and finalist status in "New Jersey Shouts Down Drugs" songwriting contest. Students won the New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education in music under my tutelage.
My commitment to the school didn't stop there. A sound proof studio and surround sound system were successfully installed according to my specifications. I designed and maintained three websites for the school, as well as the school branding.
Furthermore, I was chosen to represent the school by attending a Middle States visiting team to accredit another New Jersey school.
I can teach any musical subject in any Public School in New Jersey

· Piano · In home This is our first lesson with Mr. George Markey. He was extremely quick and professional in assessing Julia's skill level and adapting immediately to her needs. You could immediately see his skill as both a musician and teacher. We are very excited to have him as a teacher!

· Piano · In home George is dedicated, tailors the music to the student and introduces new types of music as well. My son has been taking lessons from him for at least 2 years and thoroughly enjoys it.
