I am a professional cellist, skilled in all solo, chamber, and orchestra settings. My playing has invited me into the top ranking music festivals in the world including Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and many others. These opportunities have led me to perform with the New York Philharmonic.
Growing up, I studied with a Philadelphia orchestra cellist who prepared me for conservatory auditions. After being accepted into all 7 universities and conservatories I applied to including the Juilliard School, I decided to go to the Cleveland Institute of Music where I got my Bachelors of Music in cello performance. I studied with the former principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and also with one of the best Suzuki pedagogues in the country. I, then, got a Masters in Music in cello performance from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. There, I studied with one of the most internationally renowned cello professors in the world who has shaped me into the musician I am today. In addition, I got my Suzuki Certification in all 10 levels of cello books after completing a 2 year year rigorous Suzuki pedagogy program.
In my second year at Northwestern, I won a fellowship, covering my full tuition and acceptance into The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This is the apprentice orchestra under the Chicago Symphony. We worked with all the conductors that came in to play with the symphony. Yo Yo Ma, the most famous cellist of all time, is the creative consultant for the Civic Orchestra and we got to work with him 4 or 5 times a year.
I have traveled and performed with my string quartet ATLYS representing Lincoln Center in New York City. We have traveled around the world playing crossover music, where we play arrangements of pop, jazz, folk, traditional, rock, indie, alternative, rap, but always return to the forever-beautiful classical quartets, as well.
Because of this, I have learned to play extended techniques on the cello and learned different styles of playing, like Celtic jigs and reels and cool jazzy bass lines. I think this is a fun unique quality that I can add to a student's cello development when studying with me.
I arrange music for string quartet, too. I think it's important for my students to also learn some basic music theory as it can develop a student's understanding of music at a much deeper level. This can make a student appreciate how a piece is created and where a phrase needs tension or where it needs to be released. It's very important for their musicality.
I have begun to learn more about remote recording techniques when recording yourself at home, both with my quartet and individually. This has opened a lot of doors for ATLYS and myself. I am happy to help out with giving advice about recording yourself, as well!

She has been doing a wonderful job with my daughter. My daughter absolutely loves working with her.

Teacher is wonderful and very responsible! We're lucky to have her!

Genevieve taught me the most I’ve ever learned about the cello in a mere two months. Through her I was able to move through an entire Suzuki book while also learning every scale (including chromatic) without using open strings. The techniques she taught me helped further my music that I still use today. Before studying with her I was fourth stand in my high school’s orchestra. By the end of the Summer I was able to achieve first chair and all of the offered solos.

Ms. Tabby's the best! I highly recommend her to anyone who loves music and wants to learn how to play the cello. I studied with her for a few years in Chicago and she was the most patient, kind, and dedicated teacher I have ever had. I improved so quickly while taking lessons with her, AND I had fun while doing it. If you're looking for a great teacher with a kind heart and a brilliant mind, look no further!
Genevieve is a fantastic teacher! She is very kind, caring and really tends to the needs of every individual student to make them the best they can be! I would highly recommend her as a cello teacher. I learned so much and every lesson was an absolute blast!

Genevieve is a thoughtful, experienced, skilled, and patient teacher. She herself comes from a legacy of some of the finest cello pedagogy and musicianship this world has to offer. It is a privilege to study with her!

My son had a very positive experience studying cello with Genevieve for two years before she moved to a new city for a job opportunity. We would have loved to continue studying with her! Genevieve was very positive and encouraging to my son and really helped him improve his bowing and fingering technique. She was always very patient but pushed just enough so that my son felt challenged and proud of the continual improvement in his playing. She also was very organized and always started and ended lessons on time. We highly recommend Genevieve as a cello teacher!

I met Genevieve after listening to her amazing group, ATLYS, preform with the Holland Americas Cruise Line. I approached her and told her what an inspiration she was to me and found how genuinely kind and willing to help she was. After our vacation, I was able to continue emailing her. She gave the best advice, preparing me for concerts, recommending music, and even helping me with technique from a thousand miles away! Genevieve truly made me feel comfortable and inspired me to pursue cello further.

Genevieve is the best teacher. She is kind and extremely patient. She insists on careful and accurate playing. I have noticed tremendous progress in my playing since she has been my teacher. I recommend her to anyone.

Cellist of the string quartet ATLYS. We play crossover music ranging from classical to pop to jazz to traditional to rock and more. We collaborate with other musicians and are very prominent on social media. We have an active youtube channel, facebook, instagram, and Patreon profiles where we make high-end artistic music videos of our arrangements of current songs. Our goal is to bridge the gap between classical music and current and show to the world that these art forms are not that much different from each other. With this, I am able to teach different styles of cello technique, from extended techniques and sounds on the instrument, like chopping ( percussive sounds on the cello) to Celtic reels and gigs.
