I instill in my students a love for music and for their violin. For beginners I start by getting them comfortable holding their violin. Then they learn basic right and left hand movements concentrating on one hand at a time at first in order to play some simple songs. After that I introduce easy note reading skills always keeping in mind the student's progress.
As my students progress there will be many new techniques to learn in the songs they play. I verbally explain each technique, demonstrate it on my violin, and "send them home" with exercises specifically tailored to help make their playing even more enjoyable. I also send them or their parents an email each week with all their assignments. They really appreciate that.
I rehearse community and student musicians and conduct concerts. Some examples can be found on YouTube.
Search "Gary Kroll Scheherazade Ending. RCC Community Strings Concert" that includes a violin solo by me at the beginning and middle of the clip.
Also search: "End of Hallelujah Chorus conducted by Gary Kroll at a Messiah Sing-a-Long".
I play violin extemporaneously.

I took cello lessons from Mr.Kroll for middle school and high school. He was a patient teacher and really helped me advance my skills. I played in YSSO youth orchestra and symphony in high school and he always instructed me on difficult pieces. Highly recommend him as a teacher of violin/cello.+ Read More

Gary taught by daughter cello from the time she was about 10 years old until she left for college. He is patient and kind and she always liked going to her lesson. She played in the Rogue Valley Youth Orchestra and Symphony and one year in the orchestra at her college. I would definitely recommend Gary as a teacher.+ Read More
Gary was always professional and adapted well to teaching an adult. He was very patient with me and was always great at showing me pointers on how to make my playing easier! I would highly recommend him to all students of any age!
Incredible teacher! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn the violin. From beginner, intermediate, to advanced; Gary can teach it all. He works great with young students as well as adults. I took lessons from him for many years and couldn't have been happier with the lessons and training I received. I only stopped because I graduated and went to University. If I could, I would still be taking lessons from him. If you are looking for a great violin teacher, this is your guy!+ Read More
Gary Kroll was recommended to us by a local musician and choir director, for our daughters violin lessons. Gary's passion for music shows through in his enthusiasm and his encouragement toward my daughter.
Gary has been intuitive in his assessment of my daughter's needs and abilities and he has tailored her lessons accordingly. We have been with Gary for about a year, and plan to stick with his instruction. My daughter has progressed so much in her skills since working with Gary!
