I love the piano and I am always excited at the prospect of sharing my passion for the instrument with those; young and old who are eager to explore this unique instrument for themselves. From the time I began taking lessons in the 3rd grade and now into my post retirement years, I have been an active player. My experience includes playing in jazz bands, choirs, supper clubs, special occasions, accompaniment for vocalists; playing and directing worship bands for traditional and contemporary worship services in gospel as well as contemporary Christian genres. My commitment to the piano has led me to adapt a lifestyle of study and practice that has given me the proficiency as well as the knowledge of theory to adapt to many different musical environments. I am currently part of the worship team at Capital Area Christian Church in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania. We present contemporary Christian music with styles of rock, country, southern gospel, as well as traditional hymns. I have served as minister of Music at Dayspring Ministries in Middletown PA where I alternated between piano and the Hammond B-3 organ. I have also performed with the Harrisburg Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. I taught a number of beginners during the summer camp for the Dansante Community Center. I am looking forward to helping unlock for someone, the exciting mysteries of the world of music. It could be you. *** Lesson Details *** For young and old, beginning in music is a journey that begins where you are and leads you on a path of self discovery in the creative arts. We generally begin with the basics of music orientation; posture, finger position, notes, the staff, and the language of music. For each student, I use one of several instructional workbooks based upon experience and aptitude. All instruction includes theory, practical application through fundamental routines, and selections of songs based upon the current level of proficiency. After approximately three months, a more individualized instructional program can be tailored to the student based upon their development and interest. Because of the varied experiences that I have compiled, I we can employ different strategies to suit the learning style of the students. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons are provided on a Yamaha Grand Piano. Seating for parents or those accompanying students in comfortable waiting areas including a family room with a TV or the sun-porch. A studio is dedicated to musician instruction is currently in development on the lower level. The studio will include acoustic and electronic keyboards to provide a wide range of experiences for students. *** Specialties *** I am experienced and equipped to teach classical music, sacred anthems, hymns; music that is jazz, blues, gospel, rock, and contemporary christian. My playing style is a combination of jazz, blues, and gospel.
