    About Garrett E.

Hi, my name is Garrett and I've been teaching/playing guitar professionally for 20+ years. I picked up the guitar at around age 14. I've been playing it ever since. What I love the most about playing is experimenting and incorporating different tuning and percussive techniques in my playing. I also enjoy teaching because I like to share my knowledge and I know that I can get you on stage playing a couple songs in a few months if you are a beginner. I have a BA in Music with an emphasis on education. There are a lot of genres that I am good at but finger-style is my forte. So whether it is blues, rock, pop, folk, reggae, bluegrass or just plain ol'strummin music I can help you reach your goals! I can also teach you how to read music or tablature; or understand music or chord theory; or even how to construct a song. Oh and I also teach beginner ukulele and bass lessons. *** Lesson Details *** I like to tailor the lessons to you as an individual. What is it you want to do with the guitar/ukulele/bass? If you are a parent and want your child to read and play music I can do that. I don't follow a particular curriculum because I like to have the freedom to choose what books I think would best fit the student and besides, there is a lot that I just write down on staff/tab paper as I see fit. I expect my students to follow through with the homework that I have asked them to do before we meet again. That way, you get as much out of the lesson that you are paying for. Without practice, the lessons would have little effect. Like I said before I can get you on stage playing at least 2-3 songs within a year if you are a beginner and even sooner for others. OK, so what are you waiting for? Sign up today and let's get started! *** Studio Equipment *** I have a few guitars; two acoustic/electric dreadnought style steel string guitars; one regular acoustic dreadnought and one acoustic classical nylon string guitar. I also have an acoustic/electric ukulele and a carbon fiber acoustic ukulele. For plugging in I also have a Roland Acoustic Chorus AC-60 amp that you can plug into with the guitar and sing through at the same time. For instruction I have a variety of books and papers to use or I will oftentimes just write it out on staff/tab paper. Of course I have the basics like tuners, music stands, cords, picks, metronome, extra strings, etc. *** Travel Equipment *** I would normally travel to your location with an acoustic guitar/ukulele and a travel box that I keep my lessons in. *** Specialties *** I really specialize in classical/finger-style guitar. I also teach blues, rock, reggae, bluegrass and folk. Some of my influences would be The Beatles, Paul Simon, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Ray Lamontagne, Dave Matthews Band, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, and much more.
