Bassoon with Gabriela V.

I am a bassoonist from California living in New York City, with my Bachelor's degree in Bassoon Performance from New York University. I perform on a freelance basis throughout the New York area and enjoy performing a wide range of music with orchestras, wind ensembles, and chamber ensembles. Having studied music and music performance for many years, I am aware that not all students learn the same way. As such, I enjoy getting to know students and identifying the most efficient yet comfortable way for them to learn this instrument. I aim for students not just to gain knowledge about the instrument, but to become thoughtful and adventurous musicians as well. When approaching lessons, I am an advocate for supplementing bassoon lessons with instruction in music theory, as I believe it is just as necessary to have a fundamental understanding of the music we strive to bring to life every day. I am able to teach a variety of music spanning different styles and time periods according to each student's goals and interests. As part of playing the bassoon, I do also make all my own reeds and offer high quality bassoon reeds to all my students at an affordable cost.
