I teach/coach adult students and mature young people who think they can't sing but would like to learn, who love to sing but would like to sing better than they currently do. I can teach you! Together we will develop your instrument by learning breath control, vowel placement, tone quality and ear training so that you will be able to sing well in any style you choose and it will be easy. I have been involved in vocal music for about 50 years as a singer. My performance experience has included Classical, Opera, Broadway and Jazz. I have also been a member of several choirs, soloist and appeared in several operas. I have been teaching and coaching singers for about 45+ years. As director of children’s choirs, youth choirs, adult choirs (including church choirs and opera choruses) my main job has always been teaching the members to sing properly. I enjoy teaching and watching my aspiring artists grow to become true artists in whatever style they prefer. Remember, no experience is necessary. I only ask that you are willing to try new things, be willing make mistakes and love singing. My lessons begin with warm-ups. Just like in any sport, during the warm-ups we strengthen basic techniques and expand our abilities. These warm-ups exercise various muscles involved in singing. They also help get us mentally prepared. Then we move to songs. We will build a repertoire of favorite songs that you choose and songs that I may recommend. Here we will work on breathing, diction, vowel placement, tone quality and proper style for the song. As we progress you will gain a longer vocal range and will develop an easy way of singing as a soloist or in a choir. You will learn how to fill a concert hall with sound over an orchestra without a microphone and sing softly with great intensity. I look forward to working with you!
