I am a teacher, songwriter, published author, and composer with 20+ years experience performing and sharing knowledge and inspiration with students. I received a Bachelor's of Music degree in composition and music theory from Central Connecticut State University and am the author of three instructional music books published by Alfred Music (The Total Acoustic Guitarist, The Blues Guitar Experience, Guitar Atlas: Russia) and one DVD (No Reading Required: Chords and Strums for Acoustic Guitar). My lessons have been featured in Premiere Guitar Magazine.
Beside songwriting and performing, I currently teach around 40 lessons a week to students ranging in ability from beginner to professional. My varied experience and formal training helps me to make the learning experience easy, stress free and fun, and I am dedicated to teaching to the learning style and personal interests of my students.
The Connecticut Guitar Society is a non-profit presenting arts organization. It is the largest organization of its kind serving the general public and classical guitarists by providing a forum for listening, learning, performing and teaching.
Frank is a patient and engaging teacher who lets the student's interests guide development while incorporating guitar fundamentals along the way!
I have been taking lessons with Frank for several years and I think he is an excellent instructor. He has helped me have confidence in my abilities and is patient when I get frustrated. Frank is a thorough and detailed teacher. He is always prepared for each lesson and will cater each week based on your needs and interests. He is skilled at teaching theory and technique through practice and real life musical examples. In other words you will learn to play a lot of music while simultaneously becoming a more knowledgeable musician. As a musician he is like a human jukebox And has experience playing in many different styles. I purchased his books, published by Alfred‘s music from Amazon and I have used those as reference points for my learning as well. Without a doubt I recommend Frank as a teacher and for any age group or level of interest. I give him five stars he’s fantastic!+ Read More
Frank has taught me music for more than 20 years and now, he’s teaching two of my children. My five year old son looks forward to his jams with Frank every single week. His patience and compatibility with each of our unique personalities is uncommon. He takes time with every song and technique. I am a working musician and I still constantly learn from him and am humbled by his deep and complex knowledge of the instruments he’s teaching and his respect and appreciation for how music is made.+ Read More
I have been taking lessons from Frank for many years through the Middletown Adult Education program. I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated teacher. When he is teaching, Frank has the unique ability to be able to use a variety of ways to show each person exactly what they are supposed to do. And, he is so patient while he's doing it. I have learned so much under Franks exceptional teaching and am looking forward to learning more.+ Read More
Had it not been for Frank, I would’ve quit the guitar 2-3 years in. My experiences since 2011 (when I started with Frank) were quite transformative, and that’s because of his patience towards helping people with anything regarding music. I could throw almost any genre at him and he’d respect it with almost no expression except one of optimism. When I asked for the sweet jazz he gave it to me, and when I showed him stuff that had written later on in my experiences, he was always very supportive. No matter what, Frank would make sure to teach at your level. There would never be anything you weren’t interested in like raw music theory unless you specifically asked for that. Even with that, he also always made sure I was rounded out. He always was able to find a balance between student interest and the actual important stuff. It’s a mix that is hard to obtain but reaps great rewards in terms of understanding.
To highlight what I personally got out of my experiences with Frank, my Dad has fair amount of videos of me playing. His youtube channel is “Mike Santopietro.” Here’s a link to a few videos to me playing: https://m.youtube.com/results?search_query=Andrew+Santopietro.
One of the more recent highlights of my playing was when I joined my High School Jazz Band, and I ended up performing at Berkelee Jazz Fest 2019, where I received a Judge Award for Best Soloing. For that experience, I just want to say that I especially couldn’t’ve done it without Frank. He is the person that guided me on my journey to truly feel the music. For that, I can sustain my own musical connection which I’m sure will follow me onward for the rest of my life.
Thank you so much Frank!!! :D
My son was a student of Frank's for several years. Frank is an exceptionally good teacher and mentor. He is very patient and gentle with his students, while also challenging them to excel. My son's guitar interests changed frequently from acoustic, to electric, to bass, and Frank adapted easily and readily to these varied interests. The summer "band Camp" sessions were super fun for the kids and the end of summer concerts were always a treat for parents. I would highly recommend Frank to any student interested in studying music.+ Read More

Frank was my guitar instructor thru Middlesex Adult Education and in one on one sessions at Facearts music in Deep River. Frank knows music theory inside and out and incorporates it as a part of his instruction process so the student has a better understanding of what chord progressions are being played. And importantly, he is VERY patient with the student!+ Read More
