I grew up taking lessons with Evan, studying with him all through middle school and high school before moving away for college. I’m now a professional drummer and percussionist touring the world regularly with various bands and teaching 25 students a week when I’m home in Seattle. Lessons with Evan were great! He helped me to become a well-rounded drummer and musician, making sure I developed a solid foundation with proper technique, rudiments, good feel, and knowledge of various styles, influential bands, drummers, etc. Once I turned 16 and got my license, I would rarely miss an opportunity to see Evan’s jazz trios or quartets perform. Studying with Evan was the full package: education, inspiration, life lessons… I still have my notes and assignments after all these years, and I incorporate many of Evan’s ideas and exercises into my own teaching. I highly recommend Evan as an instructor and I hope your journey is as enjoyable as mine.

Evan is not only an incredible drummer, but also a great teacher! As a professional drummer and drum instructor myself, I choose very closely who I go to for my personal drum lessons. Evan is one of the only teachers I trust to give instruction and guidance in the areas I truly need the help. This takes a ton of professional experience, as well as skill. He has a way of breaking simple as well as extremely complicated subjects, exercises, rhythms, styles -you name it- down in a way to help me to accomplish things I never thought I could do on the drums. With me, Evan has a way of uncovering and exposing my bad habits, but then fixing them, thus making me a better player. This is always done in a friendly encouraging way. In my opinion Evan Stone is not just a teacher, but a guru of the drums! The proof is not only in his playing but also in his teaching!

Evan is absolutely nothing but awesome. I had the great pleasure of studying with Evan throughout high school and feel very fortunate to had spent the time with him not only behind the drum kit but letting him dig into my inner being finding out what it was I was looking for to get me to be where I wanted to be expressing myself musically at a young age. His fine astute in nuances is what separates him from a musical and personal standpoint compared to others. There's a certain demeanor I learned from studying with Evan, am now twenty nine and feel very fortunate to still be enjoying music and freely expressing myself today from a foundation heavily weighted on what I learned from Evan. I also had the opportunity to attend the PIT program at Musicians Institute after high school and was able to test out of six months of the certificate program due largely to what I learned from Evan. I would certainly not be surprised to find myself coming back to Evan for lessons, I refresh back to a few things frequently from Evan that seem to keep me very grounded and comfortable whether i'm playing soft music or playing more aggressively with rock music still today and some things I know are so ingrained I can't even dig them out. It was truly an honor studying with Evan.

I studied with Evan all through high school (2000-2005). I have since taken lessons from many other professional drummers and finished a degree in music at BYU and Evan still stands to be one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very thorough in teaching technique/sticking/independence and all that, but most importantly he is a master at helping you APPLY what you learn in a musical way that is honest and meaningful. He is great at helping the student understand the bigger picture drumming and how to get out of your head and try to make real music. On top of that he is a great guy and fun to take lessons from. I owe much of my drumming success to him. I think that my sound and the way I approach the instrument are largely due to how he taught me and inspired me. I highly recommend any aspiring drummer no matter what level to study with Evan. One of the best in Southern California.

Recording artist and award-winning drummer/percussionist Evan Stone has an extraordinary wealth of wisdom and talent.

Of his many advanced traits, Evan Stone has a knack for listening (“Don’t hear, Listen” ...Stonism). He presents information in digestible chunks. Hence, each lesson is customized to your specific way of understanding. No matter your musical level, nor your age, your heritage, your hard-wiring, your existential pulse....Evan Stone speaks your language. Evan does not Judge. Evan Evaluates.

Here is my pitch--- Evan Stone, Zen Drum Teacher: Learn how to “sing” your drum beats. Learn how to read and write musical scales. Learn how to play patterns and accents you thought “too advanced”. Evan is a generous musician ready to share his “secret” paradiddles, grooves, poly-rhythms, triplets and more... Everything from jazz, rock, funk, blues, samba, bossa nova, reggae, clave, African, techno, country/folk...anything and everything musical and percussive is in his DNA.

Another thing about Evan Stone’s Lessons which I find really cool...he incorporates visual/audio tools and real-world analogies which transfer and fold back into music theory and playing (e.g. the Clock, the Tides, the tenuous pulse of a Major-League pitcher on the mound, Locked-in...winning the Ninth Inning). Always fluid and never clunky, Evan routinely accesses Smartphone aps (video, audio, tempo click); pen and paper, track references, or just random objects in the room -- which may even include mystical elements hovering in the atmosphere (Disclaimer: Don’t worry about it, he’s from Long Island, NY...he keeps the cosmic real).

Pull the trigger and hire Mr. Stone if you want To Live. And Play. And converse in a New, Universal, Grooving, Language.

I started playing drums as a senior in high school (2005). I thought I could teach myself or learn from youtube... I quickly found out I wasn't progressing and knew I needed lessons. I heard about Evan through one of his other students who is now a professional drummer. So I called up Evan and was hooked after one lesson! I took lessons with Evan from 2005-2007. Instantly Evan was opening my eyes to the depth of possibilities in creating beats, keeping time, etc. I learned so much from Evan and quickly was able to play with bands at school, church, and with friends. It didn't take long before I became better than many of my peers who had been drumming much longer than I had.

It definitely took hard work but I loved practicing because I loved playing! Evan gave me a passion and love for music and the drummers role in music! I am not a professional drummer but because of my lessons with Evan I am confident I can sit in and play with almost any band playing any type of music!

Thank you Evan!!!

PS. One of the other awesome things about Evan is that he's the real deal! He's not someone teaching because he can't do. You can go watch him plan all over Orange County multiple times a week in a variety of different bands and musical styles. Its been a ton of fun staying in touch with him over the years and watching him play!

I have been studying with Evan with 6 years now, and I owe so much to him for expanding my knowledge of the drums to limits I didn't believe possible, while only scratching the surface of what he is capable of. Though there is still much to learn, I feel that through Evan, I have been provided the information to hone my skills on the drums, in terms of groove, technique, independence, creativity, and overall attitude in approaching the instrument. I look at it everyday open to either learn or teach myself something new with the skills that Evan has given me. Evan has actually helped me give life itself a better outlook, where nothing is wrong, it's only interesting. Evan is definitely the first guy to call if you truly want to be a better musician and I recommend him to everyone who asks who they should get lessons from.

I have taken lessons from other drummers before I found Evan. They all taught me how to play THIS fill, or THAT beat. I knew there was a big difference between Evan and the other teachers the first lesson I had with him. He showed me how to improve my stick grip, posture, and mindset before playing. While I play at his lessons, he provides constructive criticism and examines my style of playing. He will often play the beat for you and ask what is the difference between how he played it, and how you did. Your first response will probably be something like,"Did I miss the snare on the and of 4?" He shows you that playing it "accurately" is not all there is to playing it. Evan shows you how to play with accents, power, and confidence, while still being relaxed. I have been taking lessons from Evan for over a year, and every lesson I have become better at identifying inaccuracy in my playing, improvising and implementing rudiments into my solos, reading music, and playing with confidence. I just wish I had longer lessons so I could improve more!

Evan Stone has been my favorite drum instructor hands down! He not only teaches you how to play drums, but also to think musically. He is an inspirational person who constantly teaches me new and exciting things that leave me with a constant urge to get to a practice room and shed. On top of that, he is a great person who is always fun and interesting to talk to. My skills and musicality have improved dramatically since starting my lessons with Evan, making him a great friend and instructor.
