I have been playing music professionally for 10+ years but I also have a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Temple University. My background in a psychology discipline allows me to have a better understanding of the mechanisms of learning, specifically related to music. Learning takes place when there is a personal connection from the student to the material being taught, and for this reason I like to take things at the student's own pace. Learning music can and should be fun! Lessons with me will highlight this side of the process. In addition to learning their favorite songs, students will gain insight into the music theory behind the material, which will foster a better understanding of the structure of music and can help to become a better, more original player later on. I teach scales and exercises to help with technique and soloing. If students are interested in more advanced playing styles we can talk in more depth about pedagogy and playing with regard to the economy of motion. Aside from just playing, I have acquired skills in practical home recording settings. I specialize in 4 track and cassette technology, but can also teach some of the basics of DAWs and computer recording techniques. If students are interested in recording techniques, we can certainly discuss some of the tricks I've picked up in my 5+ years of recording experience.
