I am a Cambridge-based jazz piano teacher whose role is to inspire my students to identify and fulfill their artistic goals.
I teach the piano by guiding students in composing, arranging, and performing original work. I believe this style is effective in cultivating the translatable skills of musical understanding, artistry, and personal ownership.
At the same time, I believe that piano lessons must be about more than just the piano. Thus, in the tradition of my former teacher, Allen Barker, I incorporate insights from related fields—visual art, psychology, spirituality, etc.—to enrich lessons in ways that are relevant to each students' own interests, aptitudes, aspirations, and gifts.
Co-taught popular vocal music (e.g., "Wicked: The Musical") to campers ages six to 15 and accompanied them on piano in performances.
Counseled patients who cope with borderline personality disorder and other complex disorders in building more balanced and effective lives.
