About Evan H.

I have over 25 years of experience in violin and have been teaching for over 10 years. I studied violin through the collegiate level, and my teachers included a former concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic.
I work with students of all abilities, emphasizing both technical skills and musicality. For beginners, I combine Suzuki and traditional methods.
Before starting lessons, you will need a suitable instrument and some books. I am happy to help you obtain the necessary materials if you do not already have them.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Evan's a fantastic teacher and I can't recommend him enough. I was a professionally trained pianist who was also badly taught some violin on the side and although I've been out of practice for years, Evan has gotten me back up to speed with my musical abilities in such a short amount of time. I've cycled through a number of music instructors in the past and Evan is the most patient teacher I've ever had. I get easily frustrated and he helps me work through the areas I get stuck on regardless of how many tries it takes. It's very apparent through his teaching that appreciation of the music is a priority. He's also flexible about rescheduling and cancellations, and I've enjoyed my lessons so much that finding the personal motivation to stay on top of my progress is never an issue when something comes up and a class has to be cancelled or postponed. Evan is both a superb musician and instructor and given a lot of my bad experiences in the music sphere in the past, he's done an amazing job of helping restore my appreciation and love for the art.

Evan is a very gifted teacher. Since I started beginner lessons with him a few months ago, he has been able to teach me the complex techniques required for proper playing quickly and effectively while advancing my knowledge of music theory with his calm and encouraging teaching methods. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in lessons!

All-around wonderful violin teacher! Evan has always been encouraging (and patient!) and made every lesson an enjoyable experience. I've decided to pick up the violin after a very long hiatus and at almost 30 years old - Evan provided a great game plan for me to begin reading music again as well as valuable exercises to improve my form. I'm looking forward to keeping up my violin studies with Evan and know that I've enjoyed my time (and improved my playing ability!) because of his instruction and guidance. I'd highly recommend Evan to any player - young or old - looking to pick up violin for the first time or to further hone their musical abilities.
