Overview

I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 30 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

Esther is a wonderful piano teacher. She is always positive, encouraging and patient. My daughter is 11 years old and Esther is great at challenging her to always improve without being overbearing. I think she brings out the best in my daughter which makes her want to do even better at her next lesson. I highly recommend her!

Ms. Esther is an excellent teacher! She is very good with my son who is very shy: three lessons in and my son already asked me when we will be going back to Ms. Esther for his next lesson! I have also observed the lessons and I am confident Ms. Esther knows what she is doing. We will definitely be staying on with her😊

My grandson is an energetic 6 year old piano beginner. He enjoyed his first lesson with Ms. Esther B. I found her to be a very patient and an encouraging teacher throughout the lesson. She has high expectations of her students; and, the students can learn a lot from her. Ms. Esther B. is flexible and will work with your schedule when necessary via communication with her.

My granddaughter is 6 years old and is a beginner. Ms. Esther B. is a great teacher for beginners. She explains what and how the lessons will be taught. She expresses her expectations of each student. She knows how to work with children. She demonstrates good people skills which are very important when it comes to getting someone to do what he or she needs to do to succeed. My granddaughter enjoyed her first lesson with Ms. Esther B.

My son had taken lessons with Esther for the past few years. She is very kind and has great patience with young students. She always encourages my son to practice more and provides opportunities for him to perform in front of large audience. We are really happy with Esther’s musical knowledge.

For the past few years, I have learned a lot on how to play music using a guitar. Ms.Esther helped me realize what I needed to focus on and what I was great at. Essentially, she helped me figure out my limitations with regards to my musical knowledge and skill which is great because it made me aware of what I needed to improve my skills. Ms. Esther is excellent in teaching; always making sure to help her students truly understand music and its value. I could not have asked for a better teacher. Thank you !

We love Ms. Esther. As my son's teacher, she has incredible knowledge and patience, and is very pleasant. I see the huge progress in my son looking back the day he first met Ms. Esther. I feel very lucky to have found a piano teacher like Ms. Esther.
