I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.A. in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 26 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner oboe and beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar, oboe

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

I have only met with Esther three times and seemed like I have already had her for a year. She's a very dedicated and a very knowledgeable teacher. She taught me some of the techniques of becoming a good singer. I felt comfortable with Esther and never made me nervous. I had to stop because I'm focusing on my guitar playing but would like to go back to Esther in the future to help me with my singing again. I'd like to thank Esther for being so patient with me.

Esther is a wonderful teacher. Brittney is learning a lot and her piano playing has improved in the short time Esther has been working with her. We intend to continue the lessons; however, we are changing the payment situation, which is why the lessons were cancelled.

Dale's Feedback for teacher

Ms. Esther is very patient. When I don't get something, she doesn't get frustrated. I'm also very excited to go to class each week to learn more.

Ms. Esther is a great piano teacher. My 7-year old daughter Hannah is always so excited every week waiting for Ms. Esther to come and teach her new songs. Ms. Esther is always punctuated, sometimes she even stays longer to teach my daughter additional things. Ms. Esther is very patient with my daughter who tends to rush through things all the time. Ms. Esther calms her down and patiently teaches her how to do it right. We appreciate Ms. Esther's patience, music knowledge, and her time spent with my daughter.

Feedback from Cameron

Hi Esther, Scott here, Cameron's father. She is really liking the lessons, thanks so much! One suggestion she had is to use a different color pen on the music sheets (other than blue) as it blends into the notes and is hard for her to read. Thanks for all your good teachings!Scott

Just would like to say thank you for your patience and encouragement. My daughter enjoys her lessons and always leaves with a smile. She was singing last night for us and I can tell the difference already and its only been 3 sessions. I cant wait to hear more I wish she could have more time with her. She is such a great instructor. Thank you Esther
