    About Esther B.

I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea. I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone. I have 38 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 17 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English. *** Lesson Details *** My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents. Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student. Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student. A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs. An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college. I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar. *** Studio Equipment *** Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar. *** Travel Equipment *** Guitar *** Specialties *** I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well. I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano. I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

Mrs. Esther is a really kind, patient, and honest piano teacher. She helped me work through my mistakes and told me what I needed to work on in order to improve. Her way of teaching is effective and it helped me gain more knowledge about piano and the techniques of being a good pianist. She is very caring and understands when I'm in a difficult situation and she always encourages me to keep going. I enjoyed all the experiences I had with Mrs. Esther and the unique personality she had. For the past 9 years, I have learned a lot about music and the hard work that goes into playing the piano. I will never regret having Mrs. Esther as my piano teacher and the adventures I had.

Mrs. Esther has taught me piano over the past 9 years. Over those years, I was able to learn a lot about the innerworkings of the piano, both theory and playing. Mrs. Esther carefully taught me piano with both elegance and patience and created wonderful experiences through the community concerts that she holds. Her kindness reached me in times where I was overburdened with both the study of piano and my schoolwork. The 9 years of piano that I spent with her have been very rewarding and an experience that I will continue to cherish as I continue pianoing.
