Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate
My goal is to help you create a beautiful music by focusing on the foundations of tone, techniques, and practice. Beginners will learn to read music and develop good tone and rhythm. Intermediates will work on tone, vibrato, technique, and expression. At each lesson, I will show you what you need to do and give you the responsibility of practicing at home. You will also work on bowing/finger exercises, music activities, and improvisation so you can play along with any piece of music.

Hello! My name is Estela, and I've been teaching private lessons since 2001. I enjoy helping students create beautiful music, develop good techniques, and play along with any song through improvisation. I have played violin for over 22 years including orchestras, string ensembles, church worship bands, and weddings and special occasions.

I have an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in violin from Louisiana State University and a master's degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin. I have also worked for 6 years as an ESL teacher and am very patient with new learners, immigrants/foreigners, and kids.

Estela is a great teacher, she has the patience and the drive to do this job.
I liked her commitment, her teaching style and above all the honesty.

My daughter liked having her as a teacher and will probably sign up to take lessons with her again, next summer.

Parent feedback

My son started playing violin as a part of the 5th grade music program they have at school. Estela is great at teaching him the very important basic skills that they couldn't focus on at school and then build on those skills further. After two month we can see a significant improvement in many aspects of his playing but, most importantly, he likes to come to these lessons because they are fun for him.

Estela is a very patient teacher. She pays very close attention to details involving the technique of playing the violin. Her tips and guidance are always very helpful. It is a pleasure taking lessons with Estela.

Estela is a qualified teacher for beginning violin students because students at that level have a lesson book from their school. At the high school level there is no lesson book that the student brings so it is left to the teacher to supplement with lesson material which my daughter felt was missing. My daughter at the intermediate high school level requires instruction material from the teacher. The one page sheet lesson from her high school was to be reviewed again during the next lesson was not the best use of her time for the second lesson. A recommended lesson book for intermediate students should have been provided if the student has none to bring. The initial student questionaire that was filled out at the take lesson web site indicated that she is an intermediate level student. Some kind of intermediate level instruction material should have been provided during the first lesson.
