I have been singing professionally for 15 years and teaching since 2016. The most common thread I've noticed in my students and fellow performers is that they can be knowledgeable in terms of technique but, when they lack confidence, it all goes out the window! Half the battle of singing is believing in your own ability! There is actually a chemical reaction that happens in your brain when you sing that boils down to "fight or flight." You get nervous about a note or phrase, your brain tells your muscles you're nervous, they tense up, your heart rate quickens, breath shortens, etc. It's a singer's worst nightmare.
