Learn euphonium from a Chicago-based teacher and freelancer

Through my years of studying the euphonium and trombone, I have learned from many of the greatest pedagogues in the world about how to cater to each student's individual needs. These teachers include members of the Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Lyric Opera symphony orchestras. Using this diverse and insightful wisdom, I have learned that every student has strengths and weaknesses, and I intend to help you gain your confidence through your strengths while also improving upon your weaknesses as a player. The euphonium is an exciting and beautiful instrument, and I hope lessons with me will inspire you on your musical journey as well as your own personal journey of hard work and dedication in any facet of your life.

I am currently a freelance trombonist based in Chicago. I have a B.M. from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and I am currently pursuing a M.M. in Trombone Performance from DePaul University. I also play bass trombone, alto trombone, euphonium, and bass trumpet extensively. I have extensive professional orchestra experience, having been a substitute musician with multiple professional orchestras. I have also performed with award winning chamber groups and jazz bands. These ensemble experiences have broadened my abilities and knowledge of the trombone, and I hope I can teach some of these things to you. In the past, I have taught many levels of trombonists, including beginners and high school players that have gone on to major in trombone performance at high level music schools, like the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Whatever age and background you come from, I believe anyone can become a successful musician. I have also studied improvisation from incredible jazz musicians, so I can cater to any interests that you have as a player, whether it's classical, jazz, movie soundtracks, hip-hop, commercial, or any other genres of music. My goal as a teacher is to introduce you to a wide variety of playing styles and help you hone in your technique so you can enjoy making any type of music. I am happy to drive out to your house or find a location to meet for lessons. I look forward to meeting you and teaching you the art of trombone playing!

    Experience

    Private Lesson Teacher

    Aug, 2017 - May, 2019

    Local Cincinnati Area

I taught numerous students ranging from 6th to 11th grade in the greater Cincinnati area, including brand new beginning students and intermediate students aspiring to major in music in college.

    Concert Band Assistant

    Aug, 2018 - May, 2019

    Lakota East High School

I was the assistant to the band director of the freshman concert bands at the Lakota East High School, directed by Kevin Engel. I led weekly brass sectionals, where I would direct and rehearse music with the brass members of the bands in a separate rehearsal. This sharpened my communication skills in front of a large group of young students and my ensemble directing skills. This also led to a lot of one-on-one interactions with trombone students, helping each one individually with All State and Honor Band pieces.
