    About Eric S.

I am so thrilled that you are considering taking me on as your music teacher. The reason I say music teacher and not a bass teacher is because I really think it's important that we work on the boring scientific stuff before we get to the fun creative art making stuff like learning how to play certain songs by your favorite bands. Learning principals of music makes it easier for you to create your own music as well as other songs you may want to learn. Take it from me I didn't want to take the upright bass when I was 14. But I had to, my mother forced me so I could go to a better high school than my older brother and sister. But learning how to play an upright in an orchestra made it easier for me to play electric bass. The upright is much bigger, the electric is so small compared to the electric Actually, I never took an electric bass lesson. I only took upright bass lessons and applied everything I learned towards the electric. I played by ear and would just listen to songs in my room over and over again until I felt confident that I knew enough to be able to perform the song come gig time. I learned how to read music. Don't worry we won't have to do that unless you really want to. Learning how to read music is like learning how to read and speak any other type of language. It was a real pain and it took a lot of hard work for me when I studied grammar in high school but after learning it I was able to speak and write better. I was able to take the ideas from my mind and put them into words either speaking or when I was writing. This is the same with music you have to learn a musical vocabulary that is based on tone and beats. Or harmony and rhythm. Harmony and rhythm don't have to hard. Sure they will be challenging but again learning that kind of musical content will enable you to be a much greater communicator with low-end bass lines. And that's what I am here for to help you find your own specific unique language that only you can express as a bass player musician. I look forward to getting started with you. Do you want to be a fabulous bass player? I certainly want you to be! Let's get started learning how to hold the bass, how to tune the bass, and how to pluck notes. Let's talk about who your favorite bands are and what songs you want to learn!? Are you in a band? Do you want to be in a band or are you just taking the bass to become a cooler person that why I learned and that's why I still play ...makes me feel cool about life.
