I have been teaching professional drum lessons since 2006 to students of all ages and skill levels. Earlier on in my music career I found a strong passion for teaching and saw how enlightening it is to share the gift of music. I want to give aspiring drummers the right tools that will allow them to accomplish their goals as an overall musician. Whether they want to cover a specific style, develop a solo or just know the basics of the instrument, I am here to provide the stepping stones for success. In lessons we can cover anything that you want to learn and most importantly we are just going to have some fun playing the drums.

I have experience playing music on a saxophone for a while now and I've only had 1 attempt aromatic the drums in middle school (to the dismay of my ears and everyone else on the class). I never understood the mixture of body movements or how to keep a beat before and it showed. When I had the chance presented to me to take lessons I decided why not and now I've been taking drum lessons continuously Mr. Kummer for less than half a year now and I've made a lot of progress. I'm a visual learner and someone who learns to play music by hearing how it goes as well and Mr. Kummer accommodates to that very well. He gives your really easy things to start off with and gradually builds upon the lessons. He even throws in a few rhythms that are recognizable too. He a very friendly person and he really enjoys the progress his students make. Whenever I nail a rhythm we've been working on he gets just as excited as I do and it just really boosts your confidence. I've been able to play over 5 rhythms some in 4/4 others in 2/4 and I'm currently working on a song. I've been working on the song with him once a week for about 2 months now and I've almost gotten the hang of the hole groove where I can play it with the real recording. I can't stress how happy I've been with having Mr. Kummer as my instructor. He's a totally awesome sauce guy and a whole lot of fun to jam with.

I have quite a bit of experience with the drums and have took lessons before but I never really worked on reading music for the drums and learning different grooves using written music. I have just learned by listening to it. Eric has been writing me multiple different grooves and had me work on them and has tought me how to read music. We have played along with a couple songs and it really helps me. I have improved a lot on reading music and playing it because before I started taking lessons with Eric i had pretty much no knowledge on how to read drum music. Now I am getting better and have a good understanding on how to read the music. Eric has really helped me with that and he is very good at what he does and I enjoy taking lessons. He is a really cool guy and I think people should consider taking lessons with him.

I started off taking drum set lessons with Eric a little less than a year ago with almost no experience with percussion besides a basic understanding of music theory and little bit of practice with rudiments. When I started off, I could barely keep a beat and now I'm learning some really awesome Jazz patterns hoping to get into Lane Tech's Jazz band next year. The lessons usually go with review and/or a show-of-progress with the prior weeks material and then we know whether or not we should keep practicing the material or move on. If I've got it down then well move on to some new groves which he will write out for me and then show me how they sound and give me some tips for practicing the grooves for the week. I honestly have to say that Eric has been really motivating and encouraged me to keep practicing and I know I've made a lot of progress.
