Advanced Flute Techniques: Elevating Your Musicianship

In lessons, I will teach students how to develop an embouchure and make sound, have proper technique, discuss equipment care, how to read music and develop note recognition, and ultimately, play music. All of this while, challenging the student to expand their creative and intellectual capacities. The goal is to get my students playing with proper technique, so that this will carry on throughout their career and playing of the instrument. After getting some sounds out of the instrument and having decent technique, students will be assigned 1-2 songs to work on each lesson. It is the learning of music on one's own, that I believe, truly challenges the student to continue to apply information given in lessons. My ultimate goal, is to equip my students with a sustainable and enjoyable approach to practicing and performing music that leaves them wanting to play more, and doesn't burn them out.

Hi there! I'm Eric, an energetic Multi-Instrumentalist, Music Educator, Composer, Recording Artist, and Producer from Southern California. I've been playing music for almost my whole life, and it's the greatest joy. Over the years, I learned to play the Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, and more. For me, these instruments are all uniquely amazing, and I have developed an immense respect, appreciation, and passion for each one. I have been teaching music lessons for over 14 years now, with over 8 years experience teaching online through FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, etc. My Teaching Philosophy: Everything sounds best when played relaxed, so I emphasize building a calm & confident mindset for all students. My primary objective for lessons, is ensuring my students are working on everything needed to get to their goals. Every curriculum is customized, and focuses on developing student's strengths while still accomplishing improvements for the deficiencies of their technique. My objective is to keep lessons fun, efficient, applicable, and productive. I'm happy to work with any student, and respect everyone equally regardless of experience. Thank you for reading this, please message me if you would like to learn more about music lessons. I hope to hear from you, and look forward to helping you unlock more of your own unlimited musical potential! With utmost sincerity, Eric C.

    Freelance Saxophonist

    Self Employed

I have been playing the saxophone for over 15 years now, and playing professionally for over half of that time. It was with the saxophone that I first found my voice in music, and it was through music that I believe I found my voice in life. My primary experience on the saxophone is with Jazz music, particularly improvisation. I primarily play Baritone and Tenor saxophones; alto and soprano too, but not as frequently. These are some of the bands that I play the saxophone with with: LALA Brass, Pandemonium Prism, The Marlonius Jazz Orchestra, South Central Skankers, The Teryn Ré Big Band, Los Kung Fu Monkeys, and more.

    Freelance Music Educator

    Sep, 2009 - Present

    Self Employed

Teaching and education have always been a huge part of my life. Starting at the beginning of my high school career, I would give saxophone lessons to middle school and elementary school students. As time went on, I received other students from different ages. During my last two years of high school, I was put in charge of the baritone saxophonists and bass clarinetists in my high school's marching band, teaching parts and organizing activities. My last year of high school, I was put in charge of all woodwind players in the marching band, which consisted of over 50 students. Managing productive rehearsals in the time allotted, was a skill I acquired and refined in both of these positions. By teaching students in a group this big, I feel like it has led me to give the efficient and productive lessons I give today. Most recently, I was given the opportunity to teach for a week at the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Summer Jazz Program, which is the largest Summer Jazz Camp in the United States. I also have previously worked as a saxophone coach at William Workman High School. I currently work as a saxophone coach at Goddard MS, Sandberg MS, Los Osos High School, Duarte High School, and Upland High School, in addition to giving clinics and masterclasses to nearby schools. Additionally, I started teaching as a clarinet and saxophone teacher at the SOMA music academy in Diamond Bar, CA in October 2018. I also work as a substitute band director for Mission Viejo Christian School.
