English (ESL) with Emily H.

Are you looking to brush up your English skills or try your hand at learning French or German? I would be delighted to help you find your way in navigating these tricky languages. Allow me to tell you about myself. I am a certified and experienced ESL teacher who has traveled the globe and shared her skills abroad. I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics from Boston University and a master's degree in the same from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. My first experience with teaching was giving private English lessons to children in France in 2005. I later obtained my TESOL certificate from ITTT in 2010 while I was volunteering in a refugee English class in Denver. The following year I taught ESL to foreign boarding students at a high school in Maine. While living in Germany I taught adult English classes at public community colleges and children's English classes at an after school club, as well as multiple private lessons. Additionally, I taught ESL to native French-speaking children and adults at a private school in Switzerland. I have also volunteer taught at English camps for refugee adults and children in Lebanon. Like I said, I've been privileged to offer my skills all over the globe! I speak both French and German fluently and can teach in these languages if need be, but mostly, having studied linguistics and other languages such as Russian and Arabic, I understand what it's like to be a foreign language learner. I studied the construction of languages and can easily break them down into their parts so that they are easier to wrap your head around. My skills are not limited to teaching English only, but I am also an experienced proofreader and editor. I have edited myriad documents not only for private individuals but also in the academic and professional sectors. So if you need help with writing or are looking for someone to proofread your written works, I would be happy to offer this service. Finally, as previously mentioned, I'm fluent in both French and German and am happy to help beginner and intermediate learners acquire these languages. Or if you just want someone to practice your skills with I can serve as your conversational partner! I love giving private lessons because that way I can connect with each student individually and tailor the lesson especially to meet his or her needs!
