Hello, my name is Emi. I was born in Nagano prefecture and raised in Saitama prefecture. After graduating from college in Tokyo, I moved to the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese at public middle schools and college for almost 30 years. My hobbies are practicing musical instruments and traveling. Especially, I love drumming with Japanese Taiko drum and Brazilian Samba drum. Additionally, I have been organizing summer trips and taking people who are interested in Japanese culture to Tokyo and other cities during summer for the last 10 years.
I planned and took students who were interested in learning Japanese language and culture to Tokyo, Saitama, and other cities. I plan to take students again in 2020.
I was a mentor for the English teachers who were sent by Ministry of Education in Japan.
Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.
I have been taking private Japanese classes with Emi S. for one year and a half. Before I started she asked me whether I wanted to focus on just the conversational side of Japanese or the complete knowledge of the language including kanji. For me it was all.
She is proud of her heritage and enjoys talking about Japan and her culture, which makes the class even more enjoyable. She is dedicated, enthusiastic and organized.
I am sure that with her help I will be able to meet my goal of one day passing the JLTP N1.
I recommend her for classes of any level.
A delight to learn from. My wife stayed for several months studying in Japan so her Japanese is way more advanced than mine. Yet our shared lessons are still possible since Ms S tailors the lessons on the fly to accommodate our different skill levels. I also appreciate her giving us background info on her culture when it dovetails with our lesson.+ Read More
