    About Elliot P.

I've been playing my principal instrument (upright bass) since age 7, and in all sorts of settings and situations including GT program orchestras and university honors orchestra. As a teenager I branched out and taught myself guitar and bass guitar before deciding to go to school for music education. In the meantime, I've been helping friends and band mates revisit instruments, pick up new ones, or just learn about written theory or ear training for years. It's safe to say there are very few performing situations I am unfamiliar with I can help you or your child: - learn the basics of your instrument or general theory - learn how to begin or improve your sight-reading - improvise solos or write songs. - write that bass line to your upcoming acoustic rock demo - write or help improve songs for yourself or your band - set realistic goals and surpass your own expectations in a fun and interesting environment - stay passionate about music and learning about your instrument - develop your own style and flourish with it *** Lesson Details *** Every student of mine has taught me something in return, but the one thing that permeates them all is this: you teach me how to teach you. Lessons are tailored to everybody individually with a patient instructor in a friendly and fun atmosphere. You dictate the pace: after all, if you're trying your best, you can't be frustrated that you're learning anything "too slowly", can you? I try to bring out your own strengths and passions about music in your lesson plan. I try to start with getting a sense of what your musical interests are. How I taught myself was by listening to bands I liked and mimicking them. Lessons are much more interesting if you're learning your favorite song, so why would I have you focus on something utterly unimportant to you? The first few weeks, we'll develop goals for the next months and work towards these milestones. Monitoring your progress, I'll help you develop the skills you want, in the way you want, and you'll have a blast in the process.
