    About Ellen S.

I'm a BA/MA student in International Studies at IU, focusing on women's education, Spanish, the criminal justice system, and related topics. I absolutely love what I study, so I want other students to love these topics too! Through international internships, volunteer translating for a legal clinic, and keeping up with the news in Spanish-speaking areas, I've been able to continue working on my Spanish skills outside of class, so I want to share learning resources that have helped me with other students.

    Experience

    Interpreter and IJP Volunteer

    Feb, 2018 - Present

    Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic

I translate between attorneys and clients during intake sessions, dealing with cases like U-Visas, DACA, and political asylum. I also assist in preparing visa applications for these types of cases.

    Human Rights Intern

    Jun, 2016 - Jul, 2016

    Fiet Gratia/Project Rescue

I interned for an anti-human trafficking organization in Madrid, Spain. There, I worked in a safe house for survivors of trafficking, where I taught a mixture of Spanish grammar, international cultures, cooking, and other domestic skills. I also interviewed women who were detained for prostitution in federal detention centers, gave them resources for assistance, and took case notes.
