I am a Board Certified Coach (BCC). This credential is a mark of distinction for credential holders and a source of credibility for their clients. I also have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.A. in Psychology from Wellesley College. As a licensed psychologist, I also practice psychotherapy (totally separate from my coaching practice). In both coaching and psychotherapy, my approach is what is called "solution focused." That means that the focus is on helping people meet their goals by discovering and building on what's already working in their lives. With this approach, it isn't necessary to know everything about the past or even the problem to create solutions now. I developed the "Doing What Works" and "Solution Focused Anxiety Management" programs and have facilitated them with hundreds of participants. I've had the privilege of teaching solution focused practice to many people. I've presented workshops on my “doing what works approach” to solution focused practice in the USA and abroad. I am also an author. My most recent book, on decision making, is "How Do You Know When You Know?" A recent review of this book described it as "full of practical guidelines, relevant information, and examples written in an easy to read and engaging style... Ellen is a well-respected and revered giant in the field. Her brilliance extends to psychotherapy, coaching, writing and training." I've also written books for professionals, "Solution Focused Anxiety Management," Doing What Works in Brief Therapy: A Strategic Solution Focused Approach" (1st and 2nd Editions), and "Core Competencies in the Solution Focused and Strategic Therapies." (The latter is part of a series on three primary approaches to practice, considered to be psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and solution focused. I had the honor of being asked to author the volume on solution focused practice). With these experiences, I'm ready to help you discover strategies for riding through and beyond rough patches and bumps in the road. It would be my privilege to accompany you on your journey.
