She's great, thumbs of a champion.
great personality, exceptional knowledge on guitar, wonderful with children, will definitely sign up again with this instructor.
Elizabeth was excellent. .she was encouraging, patient and helpful
Elizabeth is one of the most impressive music teachers I have ever found. Not only can she lead a student step-by-step from confusion to accomplishing all of their music goals, but she makes every step along the way seem fun and exciting! She is truly a master educator, and an amazing musician and singer as well. I highly recommend Elizabeth if you want an AWESOME music teacher for yourself or your children!+ Read More
The instructor was very patient, attentive and knowledgeable.
She was great with our daughter and our daughter really seem to like her.
Elizabeth was amazing very kind and patient with my 7 year old. My daughter was very comfortable with her and can't wait for her next lesson
"Elizabeth has helped my daughter learn a tremendous amount in only five lessons. She is 9yrs old with no guitar/musical background but with Elizabeth's guidance she has formed a good foundation and tells me " guitar is fun".
Elizabeth is an excellent teacher! We think that Elizabeth has a great left brain approach to the lessons and love her creativity. Elizabeth is very good a responding to a students needs based on their abilities and progress which makes the lessons really worth while. Highly recommend lessons with Elizabeth.+ Read More
Elizabeth is very good with little kids. My aughter cant wait to go back!
It was nice.
So grateful for her help. Love Guy Clark, Hank Williams and old blues cat who could write a tune like Townes Van Zandt. Not many can Travis Pick the way Lizzy can! She is very patient and caring and reliable. She won't quit on you and won't stand for you quitting on yourself (I tried unsuccessfully before). She is always practicing and getting better. She motivates you to do the best you can because she exemplifies excellence. 5***** Thanks to her I can thumb pick like a champ these days and it keeps getting better and better.+ Read More
Learning jazz standards for my jazz ensemble class at school. Elizabeth is showing me how to build melodies through chord construction and leading tones. It is amazing how she can take a very tough subject and make it sizable through her delicate yet precise approach. Highly recommend, especially if you're a jazz head like me! Thanks Ms. Elizabeth! Elizabeth has a way of teaching music for the intuition. Whereas many instructors will make you learn their way by rote, and give you stacks and stacks of scales and read sheet music, Liz shows you why things sound the way they do, and how the patterns fit.
I sought her teaching because I wanted to be better able to improvise with others on multiple instruments, and what she taught me, I took home and practiced until I came back with my own perception of relative modes. I became able to know the finger-chart for any given diatonic scale on my cello or setar or modal guitar in a few seconds, able to play my native flutes on key with many scales, and pick out the parts to play thoughtfully. In time I have come back to my standard-tuned guitars with a whole new sound, and it started with sitting at a piano with Liz.
She doesn't just teach you. She hands you the keys to learning more rapidly. That's the best kind of teacher you can find.
Great customer service - my son (6th grader) is into electric guitar. We were looking for someone to teach him at a reasonable price, convenient location and time. We've hit the mother load. He had a teacher for about 5 months that he liked but was teaching him acoustic. When my kid had a sub who was an electric guitar fanatic, a love match was made. Elizabeth is helpful and not "Too cool for school" which is how I feel in most music stores. She really cares for kids and doesn't undermine them and has the unique ability to tap into their genius and creativity, which results in them feeling validated and inspired to practice and "show her" they're trying! It's awesome. I have referred 2 of my son's friends to her, and they love her too!+ Read More
I almost never write reviews, but I feel strongly enough about recommending Elizabeth to get the word out here. I know 5 other people who take music lessons from her, and I am confident to say we all recommend her most enthusiastically. I agree with the other reviewers that Elizabeth is masterful at tailoring her instruction to your musical level and interests. She listens to where you are and tries to keep your personal musical goals in mind in structuring lessons. She has an amazing relationship with music and works to have students build our own unique relationships as well. I'm a beginner guitarist but she teaches guitar to other very experienced musicians. She also teaches kids! I'm looking forward to having my daughter take guitar from her in the future.+ Read More
I am a self-taught guitar player and played in a band for 3 years when I was in high school. I'm originally from Arizona and when I moved to San Jose I was looking to get back into playing guitar a bit more now that I was done with college. Except this time, I wanted more formal training. I found Elizabeth on TL and was blown away at the structure of her course. I had homework to do every week, which was awesome because it gave me an excuse to jam out on my guitar more often. Even though I had been playing guitar for years, the lessons were very challenging and I still felt as though I had much more to learn. Also, you immediately feel inspired to practice more once you hear Elizabeth play a jazz standard like Misty on her guitar like Emily Remer. This girl plays the shit out of that thing! Plus, she has a wide variety of musical background so you get to learn genres you never thought you'd enjoy playing (i.e. Blues). Overall it was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend Elizabeth's lessons to all of my friends looking to play guitar.+ Read More
Elizabeth is a fine musician well versed on a number of instruments. She also plays with great sensitivity and taste. I have worked with her in a number of demanding musical situations and she always comes through with flying colors. She would be an excellent choice as a teacher. She also is an all around great gal and would be fun to learn from. Highly recommended!+ Read More
After about 6 years instructing my son, Ronnie, on guitar, I do not simply view Elizabeth as an instructor but as a family friend. Elizabeth has helped my 17 year old become an absolutely awesome and well-rounded musician...something I will forever be thankful for. My son's skills go so far beyond what most people would assume of a teenager after 6 short years, that I understand just how lucky we were to find Elizabeth. The teacher is EVERYTHING in music! True, Ronnie has natural talent but without Elizabeth, it would have gone nowhere. I know how important the teacher is, as I was a piano major in college.
Elizabeth is easy going, energetic, inspiring, and one of the finest musician/teachers anywhere around. I still don't understand how Austin, TX got so lucky! The last couple years, Elizabeth has been teaching Ronnie scales, modes, and how music is actually put together, so Ronnie can really improvise. The other thing Elizabeth has taught Ronnie to do so well is to figure out music without needing sheet music, by ear...something I never was taught to do when I was young. I call my Ronnie MY Carlos Santana. We feel blessed to have Elizabeth in our lives. You will too.
I only started playing guitar in earnest about four years ago, and my first teacher (not Elizabeth) was a super nice guy, but the lessons were disorganized, and I only made slow progress. Then I was referred to Elizabeth by a dear friend, who raved about her gifts.
She was right! Elizabeth Hethera is a lovely, gentle, and talented woman who has the gift of distilling seemingly complex musical ideas into straightforward and accessible lessons. She is a performer in her own right, an artist, and a composer in many realms. She seems to have the ability to play and teach any instrument, though strings are her strength.
In the time since I have worked with Elizabeth, she has helped me to learn to improvise in solos in a jam environment, arrange songs to play with others, pick up new stringed instruments with minimal adjustment (I now play guitar, mandolin, bass, harmonica, percussion, and sing as well); and helped me to be comfortable in mixed musical settings. She has helped me to learn to play music rather than an instrument, and it is a beautiful gift. With her encouragement, I wrote the words and music for my first song.
Elizabeth helped me to overcome the inner critic that had always held back my music: that voice that told me I wasn't up to the task. By identifying and encouraging the musical ability in me, Elizabeth helped open me up to new vistas of self-expression. Best of all, she also teaches kids, and so my 11 year old daughter is a student as well. Now we play music together, riffing and laughing and singing. I am very grateful for that. If you want to learn music on a deep and intuitive level, you really need to talk to Elizabeth!
This lady is good! And I mean good, believe me because I am the worst guitar player ever. After half an hour with Elizabeth I am many times better than I was. I actually sound good now - just don't ask me to sing yet (while playing) although Elizabeth said she could help me get that down as well.
She taught me on my level and was really good at not being overwhelming. She knew the two songs I wanted to learn and was able to break them down to the point where now I feel like I could practice them on my own and work toward getting the strumming down (now I know how to use a pick!). Elizabeth was very easy going and never made me feel like an idiot for asking a stupid question or anything.
Elizabeth has been teaching for over 15 years, a BA, has written music and played in bands, I feel like there is a lot I could learn from her. I am definitely coming back for another lesson.
Elizabeth is very passionate about teaching guitar. I've been playing guitar for the last 1.5 years and with Elizabeth, I've learnt much more in couple of months than I learned before meeting her. She has a very structured teaching approach, she breaks down complex techniques in small modules, which enabled me to learn quickly and everything is reviewed in the following class. Elizabeth tailored the guitar lessons according to my skills and interests.
She truly is a great teacher and I highly recommend her for guitar lessons!
Always ALWAYS the best. Highly recommend for those who are intermediate to advanced levels - she knows her stuff.
Elizabeth really has a knack for taking difficult concepts and delivering them to her students in easy-to-grasp ways that mostly anyone could get. I have worked with her for the last 3 years, and she was also a reference for me when it came time for me to go to music school. I highly recommend her for younger people all the way up to adults, as she is dynamic and diverse in her approach with her students. But only contact her if you are willing to do your homework as she is a stickler for that :)+ Read More
Very thorough, dynamic, innovative, approachable and knowledgeable. Highly recommend :)))
Excellent as always. She's thorough, dedicated, intuitive and an excellent player creating future excellent players. Highly recommend if you're serious about upping your game to the next level. Because of her help, I got into the University of Texas at Austin in their music performance program. Thank you, Ms. Elizabeth!!!+ Read More
The BEST Teacher One Could Hope to Find!
Elizabeth's unparalleled enthusiasm for life and acting shines through in her performances and teaching style. She shows a strong proficiency in many different styles and on multiple genres.
She's reliable, experienced, professional, and a great lady all around. One of Elizabeth's main strengths is her ability to convey a given subject matter in a way that is meaningful, constructive and easily understood.
I'm also an acting teacher (private lessons and in the classroom) as well as a professional performer. I've found it to be a great pleasure working with Elizabeth and I would strongly recommend her as a teacher and a performer.
