About Elisabeth M.
My whole life I have loved musical theater and had a true appreciation for the joy of singing; through my passion for music, I decided to pursue teaching to high school students. A 2012 Bachelors Graduate of VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL I have had various singing and playing experiences in ensembles (choir, band, and orchestra), conducting, a cappella groups, and solo singing lessons. Since my time at my current job at Sturgis Charter School, I have founded a female and a male a cappella group, held various concerts and coffee houses, and created my own ukulele club. I am also a performer at Cotuit Center for the Arts where this year I have been cast in the shows "A Grand Night for Singing", "Spamalot", and "Company".
I believe that music is a very rewarding life-long experience and I never let any student limit themselves. I am a true believer in the power of positive thinking and I believe that we are able to accomplish anything that we truly want; I am dedicated and driven by my passion of music and I hope to pass that on to my students.
*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons, my students can expect to feel very comfortable and free to explore their voice through classical technique. It's very important that I have a safe environment in my studio so that my students are able to take risks. I am very supportive and willing to take risks of my own so that you feel comfortable with me. I also love to laugh and you can expect a light-hearted but hard working environment; music is fun and I have a lot of fun doing it.
I have a tendency to be pretty fast-paced but I adjust to whatever the student's needs are. If you feel you want to work very hard, I will work just as hard as you do. I like to record lessons so if the student could provide a recording device (recording on a phone works just fine) that would be best but I also have recording capabilities if needed. I have a small music library but we also have access to extended music literature so you can sing a song within your ability level. I believe in challenging yourself but also setting the bar at a reasonable level.
I work on singing technique and I have various warm ups to increase vocal dexterity, a very important piece to developing the voice. You can expect lots of repetition in a lesson and working on the heart of vocal technique.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have my own keyboard that I am able to travel with. I have classical and Broadway singing books and also have the ability to find music for my students through other libraries.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own ukulele and piano as well as lesson books.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Broadway performance singing and acting. I also can teach piano and ukulele to beginners looking to accompany themselves singing.
