Learning to sing is a journey of discovery. It is my task to help you become who you truly are, and excellent vocal technique helps you express that. Discover your voice in a fun, professional and nurturing environment that will help you reach a vocal depth that is inspiring and satisfying. I am a professional vocalist, songwriter and voice teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. Because I am active as a touring musician I constantly strive for improving my own abilities and adjust them to the needs of the road. My touring and recording has immensely benefitted my teaching, because I continue to have real-life experience as an active musician. I know what it takes. I have been a faculty member at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City for over 15 years. I've been fortunate to teach Private voice lessons there as well as Ear Training, Vocal Performance, Vocal Musicianship, and Senior Seminar. As a touring jazz vocalist I have performed all over the world, from Japan to Egypt, Germany, Mexico, USA and Canada. Most of my touring happens in Europe. While there I teach online lessons only. As a band leader I have released 12 CDs throughout the years. I also owned and ran my own recording studio for 15 years, until the Real Estate monster snatched it up. I enjoy going deep into vocal technique with my students, exploring what it is that holds them back from reaching that next level, releasing fear and physical tension, balancing and strengthening the voice. Vocal improvisation is another subject I love, be it free improv or specific jazz scat singing over chord changes. Helping vocalists of all levels become better singers and deepen their musicianship skills is a big and wonderful part of what I get to do.

I contacted Elisabeth Lohninger to improve my flexibility to move between registers and to strengthen my upper range and I was very happy with the results. I immediately felt at ease sitting by her beautiful grand piano and was impressed by her knowledge of vocal technique, sound production and anatomy of the voice. She tailor-made a vocal exercise regime for me that was specifically designed to address my needs and I was astounded how quickly I improved and was able to move freely between registers and access my falsetto. I can wholeheartedly recommend her and would not hesitate to entrust my voice in her care

Elisabeth is incredibly knowledgeable, intuitive, and fun to be around. I genuinely enjoy every lesson, and I marvel at the progress I've made in a year. She's very flexible in terms of learning approach, musical style, and lesson medium—I couldn't ask for a better instructor.

I had an audition coming up and was extremely nervous. Elisabeth helped me unpack some of the technical issues I had with my audition piece (musical theater) and gave me specific exercises to strengthen the weak parts of the song. She was super supportive, warm and just there with me and my struggle! The audition went really well. I'm so happy to have worked with her!
