Study both piano and music theory with an accomplished pianist, teacher, composer, and musician.
I’ve been teaching piano for more than 30 years. Whatever your current level of proficiency I’ll get you better at sight-reading, ear training, fingering, and rhythm. As a composer, arranger, and orchestrator I can improve your skill should you wish to explore creating your own music. My deep knowledge of almost all genres enables me to work with you on just about anything you could want to learn, so I can tailor your lessons to meet your heart’s desire—as a teacher that’s what’s most important to me. I have a Kawai grand piano and an 88-key digital keyboard for virtual and in-person lessons. Speaking of digital, I can even guide you on putting together or upgrading a home recording studio. Let's get together and hear what happens!
About Efrem B.

Born in San Francisco he began playing piano at age four and made his performance debut at age six, going on to present solo recitals and appear at music festivals throughout the Bay Area, ultimately gaining notoriety in international competitions including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Efrem studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with William Corbett Jones and received his Bachelor of Music degree from San Francisco State University. He then moved to Los Angeles where almost immediately on arrival found himself selected to perform Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue" at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Olympic Games. After completing the film-scoring and sound-engineering programs at UCLA he began making his mark in film and television, and since then has amassed a large number of movie and TV credits, known for his ability to create in a wide range of styles. In addition to composing, arranging, and orchestrating he’s a recording-session producer, most recently doing extensive work with the Budapest Orchestra.

Efrem has been a great fit for my goals as an adult rediscovering my long lost piano skills from childhood. He knows music theory and has perfect pitch and enjoys all genres of piano music . He is an expert in classical music. He lets me decide the musical path I want to take which makes for a most pleasant lesson.

5 decades ago my parents mandated I take piano lessons at a time when I was much more focused on baseball, football, ice hockey, etc. In fact, my piano teacher fired me! At long last I returned to the piano to complete the musical journey my parents set me on. I am convinced that if Efrem had been my instructor when I started way back when, the arc of my musical life would have been altered all for the better! His enthusiasm for instruction, his ability to delve into the practical application of music theory, keyboard technique and a coherent lesson plan keep me on track with identifiable goals. Don't miss the opportunity to meet Efrem and experience a lesson or 10 at the piano----it will be well worth your time!

I’ve been training with Efrem for a couple of years. We had in person sessions before the lock downs and switched to online since. Efrem is very knowledgeable and extremely patient. He doesn’t guilt you when you haven’t practiced enough and patiently walks you through what you should know. That has made it very easy for me to not feel that I have to cancel a session for lack of practice. We keep the sessions and take baby steps. And his attitude has helped me keep it consistent. He also has great tips and ideas on how to perform a piece.

Broadcast Music Inc. was founded in 1939 by forward-thinkers who wanted to represent songwriters in emerging genres, like jazz, blues and country, and protect the public performances of their music. Operating on a non-profit-making basis, BMI is now the largest music rights organization in the U.S. and is still nurturing new talent and new music.
