I'm a percussionist, composer and educator. I hold a Masters degree in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado-Boulder and a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. From 2016-2018, I was the Visiting Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Wyoming (UW). At UW, I oversaw all facets of the percussion area including teaching all applied percussion students, percussion ensemble, percussion methods and jazz ensemble. Before UW, I taught percussion, music theory, ear training and jazz improvisation at the University of Colorado-Denver. and the Denver School of the Arts (DSA). I've also had the good fortune to perform with many musical luminaries including: Phil Woods, Terell Stafford, Joel Frahm, Bob Reynolds, Andy Laverne, Jon Faddis, the Louisville Symphony, the CCM Philharmonia, Michael Rodriguez, Von Freeman, David “Fathead” Newman and Greg Osby. My goal as a teacher is to maintain the enthusiasm students enjoy when they begin drum lessons. Every student hopes that beginning drum lessons is the start of an exhilarating and rewarding experience. I sustain this interest by empowering students’ musical improvement and achievement. Lessons are structured around 8-16 week performance projects and feature a unique teaching method that maximizes each student’s musical capabilities. My approach utilizes video instruction and communication to enhance the traditional lesson format. I also integrate and utilize parents of younger beginning students (8-12) into the lesson curriculum. These methods optimize the student’s practice time between lessons and translate to student success!

Ed Breazeale is a very talented professional jazz drummer and percussionist. He is dependable and easy to work with. Ed is very generous with both his time and experience and is helpful to both student and parents in finding supplemental resources to aid in drum practice and development. Ed is extremely driven and unafraid to take risks which push himself and his students to new levels of accomplishment. Our son and our family thoroughly enjoy any opportunity to work with Ed.

If you’ve seen Ed play, then you’ve seen that he is incredibly dedicated to detail and precision. These qualities translate to how he explains concepts and teaches. I attribute so much of the success I’ve achieved on the drum set to what Ed has provided for me.
