Eddie has a unique teaching style that helps you learn how to teach yourself. He teaches a learning philosophy he calls The Art of Accumulative Practicing. When done correctly, Eddie's methods will make every minute of your practice time count towards your progress. If you practice ten minutes, then you will be ten minutes better when you put your instrument in its case.
Trumpet students should know that Eddie has written a number of method books, some of which have been used by trumpet players around the world to help them with their tone, range and endurance. If you are having trouble with your chops, Eddie's reputation as a "Chop Doctor" may be precisely what you're looking for.
Eddie is also an established jazz improvisation teacher. Some of his past students are considered the best jazz musicians of our day.
Jazz Forever is a ten piece jazz ensemble specializing in music from the 20's to the 50's. My job in the band is to write the music, lead the ban in performances and play one of the trumpet parts. There are two trumpets in the band.
Some of the students who went through my advanced improvisation class at HSPVA are considered the top jazz musicians of our time.
This is where my love for orchestral music was born.
Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. Mr. Lewis has extensive knowledge in both classical and jazz disciplines. His extensive study and performance in both genres on the horn offer invaluable knowledge to cater to his students. I think the defining factor of Mr. Lewis is that he will guide his student to where the STUDENT wants to go. He will always work towards the STUDENT'S goals, the STUDENT'S sound, and the STUDENT'S aspirations. He never makes the lessons about himself, or sounding like him. He makes lessons personal and STUDENT-GUIDED. And with his endless vault of knowledge, there is no limit to how far he can take a student.
Mr. Lewis remains professional but can also develop sympathetic, personal relationships with his students. He is always organized and EVERY bit of work that he does for his students remains on the top of his priority list on his computer. His organization makes every lesson expedient and effortless. He remains to be the most caring and thoughtful teacher and human that I have met.
I have had multiple trumpet teachers in the past, but no one I have studied from amounts to a fraction of what Mr. Lewis is. Mr. Lewis isn't just a great trumpet teacher, or classical teacher, or even jazz teacher. He embodies the role as a mentor and guide through the study of expression through the medium of music, and has helped me become a more mature individual.
