Hey there! Maybe you are just getting started playing and need some guidance. Maybe you have a firm grasp on things but feel like something is missing. No matter the case, you've come to the right place to expand your musical knowledge. Not to mention have a lot of fun doing it! My name is Dylan M. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have been playing music since I was 8 years old. I received 2 local music scholarships and a general academic scholarship. I am currently attending college for my music degree. I spent much of my time being a teachers aid for the music classes at the high school I attended. I love playing music and do it every chance I get. To me there is nothing more fun than learning a great new song and playing with other musicians. I spent years studying music and putting the pieces together. I want to help you avoid the frustration of not knowing what to practice and how to practice. I can help you discover your talents by teaching in a straightforward and common sense approach. I encourage a relaxed but focused learning environment. It is a great time to take lessons with me because I am currently taking music courses full time in college so I am immersed in the subject. Music has been my main passion. *** Lesson Details *** I teach all levels of guitar and beginning and intermediate piano/keyboard. Having exercise/song/workbooks is extremely helpful for players who want to learn fast. And of course, these are just guidelines, we will see what works best. I have several books that I normally use that I find work really well. Available instruments for hands on learning are guitar, bass, and keys. I will explore with you the ways to create original music or I can simply show you what it takes to play your favorite songs. I can keep you engaged by giving you important information from technique and theory books but then immediately show you how what you learn in the books can be applied. I find it very important to teach aspiring musicians a broad understanding of music. We need to understand why it works in order to effectively play and create music. During the first lesson I will focus on seeing what level your playing is at and would like to get out of music lessons. From there we will jump in to learning by focusing on material for your skill level and interest. I will help you with your specific needs while also going over what any musician needs to be successful. During lessons I will give you exercises to practice including reading charts/notes and playing. I will identify how you best learn and fit the lessons to you. I have a tried and true approach that will get you seeing improvement as long as you practice and are ready to learn. It is extremely important that you practice regularly. That way you can see real progress. As you can see, I feel it is very important to structure lessons in order to have success. We will work in sequence and build your skill from the ground up. That said I love catering to individual students needs and want to make sure I teach them what they want to learn. If you have something particular you want to learn. Be sure to let me know.  *** Studio Equipment *** At my studio I have a great keyboard, several guitars, a bass, 2 amplifiers, and some simple recording equipment, as well as relevant textbooks. I have everything needed for quality lessons. Be sure to have your own instrument. *** Travel Equipment *** For guitar lessons I will bring my guitar and any handouts for that lesson. If you are using one of the books I will use your copy to give you practice materials as well. I will bring my guitar tuner, but being a guitarist, it is important that you invest in a tuner, picks, and buy strings when you need them. For piano lessons I will bring any handouts for that lesson. I will use your book that you purchased at the beginning of your lessons to give you practice materials. *** Specialties *** Pop Rock, Pop, Hard Rock, Groove Metal, Contemporary, Jazz, Classic Rock, Pop Punk, Thrash, Blues, Country, Classical I love so many styles of music. I help students with any style they wish and I love to incorporate different styles together. Seemingly very different music styles such as classical vs more aggressive rock may seem like two different worlds but they really are closely related! I show students how to know what notes to use over which chords and how chords relate to one another through the teaching of modes, and the diatonic chords within a scale. With the determination to create this art and the right tools nothing is holding you back! I teach fingerstyle, picking, alternate picking, economy picking, tapping, appropriate use of the whammy bar, palm muting, inversions, chord functions, progressions, scale degrees, harmonics, syncopation, modes, finger strength exercises, rhythm exercises, speed exercises, and more. And of course, I show you how it all relates and why it's important so you can utilize your new knowledge!

I like how enthusiastic Dylan is about music. His love of music shines through. He doesn't only teach technique, but he teaches the way to express emotion through music. Recommend!
