I have been teaching private music lessons for the past 7 years and my focus when teaching is to find the best lesson format that caters to the needs of each student. I love to share my passion and love of music with my students and will always try to help them achieve their goals to become the musician they want to be. I studied music education at WCSU and have performed in many different professional environments. I can teach all styles of composition, improvisation, the best ways to learn songs, how to accompany yourself, proper fundamentals of playing your instrument, and how to read music. If you have questions please ask, and I hope to have the chance to help you on your musical journey.
I have been teaching with WHM for a little more than 6 months and I have loved working with families and finding the best way to teach piano to my students. Finding pieces that both interest my students and teach them proper technique is a constant exploration. I believe the best balance in a good piano lesson is between challenging material and material that feels rewarding to play and sounds good to the student. Sometimes it helps to get out of the books and learn a pop tune or something thats trending on the radio. Learning chords and song structures is just as important as being a good reader in today's modern music scene.
I had a great experience working at Fairfield Music and Arts due to my huge range in different types of students. My teaching philosophy is all about finding the most productive lesson for each student and each student gave me an exciting new opportunity to develop a new lesson format. Some students were interested in fingerpicking and learning alternative folk and indie music, some were interested in learning how to play rock and improvise, and some had no idea what they wanted and it was just as rewarding helping them find their passion and voice on the guitar.
