As a teacher for over 20 years, and a performer for several decades I am able to quickly attune to your needs. This includes... Recognizing what is unique about you and your voice, developing it, expanding upon it & addressing those areas that need work. What are your goals? Professional performance/career? Just for fun? Personal growth? Diversion from work? Making contact with your feeling? Uplift your spirit (it really does, you know:) I work with all levels and individual goals. I have a large tool box from which to draw vocal exercises & techniques to address your personal issues. I offer tools that help build CONFIDENCE, so important for singers. Some areas of focus include: VOCAL EXERCISES: Range, projection, breath support, flexibility, fluidity, dynamics EAR TRAINING: Where are those pitches, really? Learning relative pitch, singing intervals, arpeggios REPERTOIRE: Finding the material that you love and singing it your own way TECHNIQUE: Breathing to support your voice. Effortless production of your true sound...getting out of your own way PERFORMANCE: Getting ready: mic technique, preparedness, organizing, gigs, accompanists, bands, overcoming performance anxiety My students are pleased and pleasantly surprised by the transformations that take place, often in the first lesson! *** Studio Equipment *** Yamaha Grand Piano Baldwin Baby Grand Piano Microphone Vocal Amp Device player Minus one recordings *** Specialties *** I work with singers of all genres including pop, r&b, rock, blues, soul, Broadway, country...everything except classical. I specialize in Jazz, blues, scat singing and vocal improvisation. I have great knowledge of the Great American Songbook which includes tunes sung by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.

Dori is a top-notch vocal instructor - I have already recommended her to countless colleagues and friends. She is a talented and highly engaging teacher, who facilitates a positive and fun learning experience every week, while still pushing you to constantly improve. I noticed a difference in my singing and confidence-level immediately, and plan to continue studying with her as long as I'm in the city.

Dori is a great instructor. Learning with her is easy and fun. Her background is jazz but she adopts to any style you choose. She is flexible in terms of scheduling and adopting to student's time.

Dori was absolutely amazing. I have a pretty extensive singing background but hadn't done much in the recent years and she made me feel so comfortable. She took me through a variation of different warm ups to focus on my strengths and weaknesses and then had me sing songs of my choice in which she gave very constructive feedback. I would 100% recommend her as a vocal coach!

    Experience

    Voice Teacher, Vocal Coach

    Nov, 1991 - Present

    Private Music Studio

located in a townhouse tucked away on a courtyard in Tribeca which is downtown in NYC. Lessons are one on one. I share the studio with my husband who teaches piano. Our students are often charmed by our location which they often say feels like it's not in NYC. Our studio looks out on a courtyard full of gardens and trees...great place to come a chill out and work on vocals.
