Learn the fiddle with fun tunes, and feel comfortable playing for yourself and in groups.

I have been teaching and performing for over 20 years, and I really love sharing the music with students. Fiddle and folk music is fun music for dancing and singing. I play and teach Celtic, Old-Time, Bluegrass, Scandinavian and other styles to students of all ages. Learn by ear and by note. Whether you are an absolute beginner, returning to music after a break, or you know some tunes and want to learn more, I can help you find your "voice" on the fiddle. We call it "PLAYING" , so come and Fiddle For the FUN of it!

    About Donna W.

I love teaching and sharing my love for music. I have taught violin/fiddle to students as young as 3, and as old as 92, and had fun with all of my students. I love seeing the enthusiasm grow in absolute beginners, adults as well as children, and encouraging them to find their own joy in music. I help students gain more confidence in playing with school groups, and playing with friends in jam sessions or chamber music. I have had students play in fiddle contests, and take First Place, in their division. I am a retired public school Music teacher, and have taught students for many years, from kindergarten through high school. I also arrange music, writing exercises or tunes specific to a student's needs, or transposing a tune into the keys where a student can play more easily, to find the joy of PLAYING and then become comfortable with reading the notes.

Great first lesson. Engaging, and moving at the right pace for me and my ability. Learned a lot in just 30 minutes, and can’t wait for the next lesson. Very personalized as well, as she found me a song in the style of music I want to play (Celtic) that I am able to play with the notes I learned in the first lesson

I have been playing fiddle with the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers for over 10 years, and played Bluegrass and Celtic fiddle in California before that. I have been on the faculty of the West Cascades Fiddle Camp Near Eugene for 9 years, as well as competing in the Willamette Valley, Oregon State and Washington State Fiddle Contests. This year, 2024, I became the Oregon Champion in the Senior-Senior Division, and will compete in the National contest in Weiser, Idaho, in June. I have played Scandinavian music for the Junction City Scandinavian Festival, and Bluegrass and Celtic music anytime I can. I also perform on violin and viola with string quartets, trios and duos, as well as orchestras and pit orchestras for musicals in California and Oregon.

The Oldtime Fiddlers Association is a nonprofit organization with representation across the nation. As our motto states, the organization is dedicated to the perpetuation and promotion of oldtime music. Oldtime music is loosely defined as that played on traditional instruments dating from the first half of the 20th century and earlier. Many of the tunes we play date from the 18th century and even earlier.
