I have more than 12 years teaching experience. Of those 12, five of them have been in music stores wherein I taught students of all ages, musical interests and skill levels. My students have gone on to form rock bands of their own, compete in singer/songwriter contests and pick up other musical instruments all because of the musical interest/passion I have helped develop. I was very involved with the local music scene in the Midwest and now, in the Phoenix area. I have written, produced, engineered and played on many recordings ranging in genre from folk to metal and classical to jazz. I have a professional studio built in my home that has a both a control and live room, wherein, I can record something as elaborate as a full band or something as simple as a single vocalist. Please be sure to check out my blog "SCALES and CHORDS and STRINGS, OH MY!!" it is a one-stop place for getting guitar insight and pointers. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching style has three major areas: technique, theory and composition. I try to motivate students to write their own music and by doing this I establish a need for theory and technique to accomplish what it is they may feel or hear in their heads. I try very hard to establish and maintain a comfortable environment with my students. In a comfortable place, someone will be open and not afraid to express themselves and make mistakes. Moreover, they will be able to recap the benefits of having a one-on-one musical instructor that can help them reach their goals. I respond to passion very quickly. I can promise if the student is serious about learning guitar and passionate about music all together, then they will excel quickly with me and have much versatility to show for the hard work and practice. *** Studio Equipment *** Pro Tools, music workstation, keyboards, guitars, basses, amps, effects processing, microphones, stools, studio monitors all in a professional studio space with good lighting. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide instrument cables, tuner, music stand and practice amplifiers. I always expect a student to have his or her own guitar with a complete set of strings. However, I am always willing to let a student use one of my guitars for experimental purposes. Also, depending on the student and type of lesson, more may be required; such as: a computer with recording software, audio interface and a keyboard. *** Specialties *** I specialize in music theory-based instruction, improvisational techniques, songwriting and instrumental versatility. It is my goal to produce musicians that are passionate about all three parts of music: creation, practice and performance.
