    About Dominic L.

    An active orchestral performer, double bassist Dominic Law has appeared as principal bassist for the Juilliard Orchestra, Sarasota Festival Orchestra and Asian Youth Orchestra, and has been featured in a collaboration concert at the BBC Proms with the Royal Academy this past summer. Mr. Law has also performed with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Taiwan Connection Festival Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and Aspen Festival Orchestra. Mr. Law began his early lessons in 2005 with Raymond Yu. He enrolled in the Junior Music Program of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) the following year, and would spend the next 10 years at the Academy studying with Ming-Cheung Lam. At age 15, Mr. Law attained the Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with distinction, and was invited to perform at the Diploma Awarding Ceremony. Mr. Law spent the summer of 2016 at the Aspen Music Festival and School on fellowship, where he studied with Albert Laszlo. He was invited to play in a masterclass with Vienna Philharmonic principal bassist Ödön Racz by the Carnegie Hall, and was also featured in other masterclasses with Alberto Bocini, Paul Ellison, Alex Hanna, Thomas Martin and Edgar Meyer. Mr. Law will return to The Juilliard School to start his Master’s degree this coming fall, having just completed his Bachelor’s degree in May. He has received the Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund Scholarship, Matthew and Kay Bucksbaum Scholarship, Bernard van Zuiden Music Fund Scholarship and Bei Shan Tang Memorial Scholarship. His principal teachers include Timothy Cobb, Hal Robinson and Rex Surany.

    The Music Advancement Program is a Saturday instrument instruction program for intermediate students from New York City’s five boroughs and the tristate area who exhibit great musical potential. The program actively seeks students from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in the classical music field and is committed to enrolling the most talented and deserving students regardless of their financial background. Through a comprehensive curriculum, performance opportunities, and summer study partnerships, MAP students gain the necessary skills to pursue advanced music studies while developing their talents as artists, leaders, and global citizens.
