Diego Alonso has a Masters degree in pedagogy & musicology specialized in flamenco ("flamencología") (ESMUC, Barcelona) and graduated with highest honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundación Cristina Heeren (Sevilla). He has over 19 years of professional teaching and performance experience and has traveled to over 15 countries to perform, teach and compose since 2002. In addition he has given over 10,000 private guitar lessons and has given workshops, clinics, lectures and masters classes in schools and universities across the globe.

In addition to his experience and education in flamenco, Diego also has a background in classical guitar and Latin-jazz guitar making him one of the most experienced Spanish guitarists and educators in the country.

MY GOALS AS A TEACHER
Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill development and expertise. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn HOW to practice effectively in order to learn quickly and correctly.

STUDENT QUOTE
"Diego is a fantastic teacher and guitarist. He is generous and patient, encouraging and effective. Diego has the ability to simplify difficult technique and break it down in simple terms. His studies in Spain make him a rare and sought after teacher in the U.S. In short, Diego has given me the keys to succeed in this beautiful and challenging art form. I wholeheartedly recommend him!"
-- Marty M. (M.A. Education, B.A. Jazz Guitar, Professional Guitarist)

WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?
For flamenco or classical lessons you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week. Flamenco guitars must have a "golpeador" (tap-plate) installed. I recommend getting it professionally done with a permanent tap-plate.

Better and Better. I was not into the idea of online lessons, but it really is doable this way as long as you can see what the teacher is doing and they can see your fingers/hands too!

Greatly appreciated the pointers on how to clean up the picado technique first in order to progress later on to some falsetas. Excellent session! Thanks Diego.

I appreciate Diego's teaching and how he is able to catch the subtle things I am doing wrong over a web cam no less. His pedagogy sets a high standard for playing, but the lessons progress naturally and logically.

As a teacher, Diego is very patient while encouraging me and knowing when the teaching pace should pick up or slow down. This makes his teaching very efficient while ensuring strong fundamentals.

I look forward to many more years of instruction by Diego and am happy to have found such a knowledgeable and skillful maestro.

My son Robert has been taking guitar lessons with Diego for over a year now. Lessons were taking place at Diego's premises until we moved back to our country. Robert totally refused to work, or even consider the possibility to work with any other teacher besides Diego. Ever since our return, Robert has been taking his weekly lessons over Skype.

Diego is professional, talented, deligent, patient, caring, well prepared, well knowledged, knows how to prepare and challenge his students and most importantly, puts his students interests first.

There are no words I can use to explain the joy my son has when he takes his lessons and when he finishes and performs one of Diego's flamenco pieces, nor can I explain his anxiety when waiting for his lesson to begin. Diego is truly a great teacher and mentor to his students and I strongly recommend him to be the guitar teacher of choice.

Been talking lessons with Diego for about half a year now. He's been one of the best teachers I've had (being 40+, I've had an opportunity to experience quite a few). He's enthusiastic about my progress and works hard at presenting material in a way, and at a pace that's right ofr me. I've been incredibly pleased with the quality of his instruction, and super happy with the progress I've made with his guidance. I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with him.

Absolutely terrific. I really enjoy lessons and the way we work through technique together. He has a really clear way of explaining things. I am really pleased with the progress that I'm making with his instruction. Very enthusiastically recommended!

Diego is a great teacher! I have been taking lessons from him for a while now and I have improved considerably. He is very clear with his teaching using the information learned through his information psychology. He explains why we must do something a certain way and this leads to a better understanding of flamenco and the guitar. He teaches not just guitar, but also how to practice. Diego is incredibly friendly and makes learning something so difficult manageable and fun!
