Debra is a native of Lynnwood, WA (Seattle area), where she started your music experiences. She was one of those classic stories about singing before speaking as a child. She started her music involvement since the 4th grade with band and choir and since then, the rest is history.
Debra has two Bachelor's degrees; the first is in Music Education - Choral Emphasis, and the other being in Vocal Performance both obtained at Brigham Young University - Idaho. She loves to teach as well as sing in the classical and jazz/broadway genres.
Debra is extremely experienced in the audition world and has been a finalist for several competitions including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Lois Alba Aria Competition. Her engagements for this year, thus far, are more auditions as well as playing the Abbess in Puccini's Suor Angelica with Eastman Opera Theatre.
*** Lesson Details ***
Debra teaches all ages, from beginning to advanced levels. Each lesson is geared toward that specific individual and their needs. She can help with everything; whether you need help preparing for auditions or just wanting to learn how to sing, it can and will be accomplished.
Students of Debra experience a fun working environment as well as a structured one. They focus on the fundamentals (good posture, breathing, tone) and apply it to what the student wants to sing... within reason.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in the classical area of singing
I very much enjoyed my teacher Debra - she was easy to work with and taught me what i needed to know on a level i could understand & relate to. I had not had any prior vocal lessons, and didnt know what to expect, i thought it would be overwhelming, but she made my lessons something i looked forward to every week. I am still practicing & appplying her techniques! Thank you Debra!
Debra is an awesome teacher, she has boosted my confidence and skill level. I didn't even expect to improve or enjoy them quite as much as i did. I would highly recommend her to anyone, her teaching style is tailored perfectly to fit your requirements.
Debra M. Feedback
I had a feeling this job thing may run some interference once October came around. Sure enough, my hunch was right. I hate it when I am right...sometimes. After only one session I can tell Debra understands her students. She has a great feel for their ability and the ability they want to tap into. Debra always offers honest feedback in a positive manner. I know she can draw a good voice out of me but it may take a little longer now with life getting in the way. I will be back, though. Debra is a great teacher and will take any student to destination they want to reach.
Debra, you have been and continue to be such a wonderful teacher- always enthusiastic and encouraging. Your love of singing is infectious, and you do an amazing job of appealing to my kinesthetic learning preference. Thank you so much! and by the way, my friend Mariya will not be able to commit to the band with her summer schedule so E will be just fine for the Jetplane song =)Janaki
