    About Dawn L.

Hi, I have a wonderful 500sqft space I teach private and small group classes in the Dimond district. There's a 12x16 ft dancefloor with mirrors, and TWO drum sets! 1 acoustic and 1 electronic which makes teaching more effective. There's also an acoustic guitar and will probably get a keyboard very soon. The space s also available to rent hourly. DANCE I've performed, taught, choreographed in the Bay, Los Angeles, New York, and Costa Rica over the past 20 years. My training/experience includes belly dance, several African derived styles, house, hiphop, samba, heels / burlesque, lyrical, fire, salsa, new style hustle, and Tahitian. Most of my training came from minoring in dance at San Francisco State University as well as training with companies such as Fua Dia Congo, Superstar Belly Dance, and Sambarinas. During my years in LA, I was featured in several music videos, commercials, live events, films, and print advertisements for major brands such as AT&T, BET Awards, Major Lazer, So You Think You Can Dance Commercial footage, the Idlewild movie, and more. In Costa Rica, I led my district's group to win the 2nd place in the national Carnaval two years in a row, landing on the cover of the national newspaper. There, I director and choreographer for a successful entertainment show in 2015, Puerto Viejo Live. Currently, I'm the dancer for "The Purple Ones" a Prince Tribute band directed by Levi Seacer, Prince's former guitarist/artistic director/producer. MUSIC PERFORMANCE I began musical training with classical piano at age 6, then transitioned to drums five years later. Growing up, I played in my school symphonic and jazz bands. At San Francisco State University I continued to study music concentrated on electronic music production. After SFSU I lived in Los Angeles, New York, and Costa Rica. All the while, still producing and writing music, singing in original and cover bands, and playing drums in several bands. Additionally, I’ve released a couple albums with original music digitally on iTunes and Spotify. Then, I made three music videos for 3 of the released songs on these albums. A few of my favorite performances include the Eagle Rock Music Festival, playing at The Mint LA, The House of Blues Foundation Room, The Grand Star, Oakland’s First Fridays, and Oaktoberfest. In Costa Rica, I founded/directed a multicultural entertainment show with live music, dance, fire shows, aerialists, and more. Besides directing about 13 performers each week, I also played drums, sang, danced, and choreographed the dance performances in each weekly show. Two years ago, I returned to the Bay Area. Currently I’m playing drums in a rock/hiphop band, Mad Fiction. But, connecting people to the therapeutic joy of playing music is one of my great passions.
