I am a professional violinist, violist and cellist. I've served as principal 2nd violinist with the Tampa Bay Symphony for 8 years. I've also played in numerous other groups like the St. Petersburg Opera, Space Coast Pops Orchestra, Bach Festival Orchestra and String Quartets for Weddings.
As a child, I wanted to be like Mozart and was inspired by cartoon and film music. So, I started composing at the age of 8.
My high-school orchestra performed and recorded two of my works.
I went on to Rollins College in Winter Park, FL in 2000 and earned a B.A. in Music Performance (viola). After graduation, I managed a violin shop for a few years and learned about string repairs and sales. I took some Suzuki teacher training in 2008 in NC and then taught at Sam Ash Music Superstore in FL for 9 years
where I wrote over 20 pop rock arrangements for string quartet.
My passion comes from darker sounds but I also enjoy light and dance-able sounds as well. I continue to practice everyday because there is always something to improve upon. I'm currently doing deeper study into the Bluegrass genre because it is fairly new territory for me. It's always exciting to learn new tricks!
I worked at Sam Ash selling instruments and ended up teaching full-time for many years with 40+ students. The opportunity allowed me to instruct group lessons, string quartets, trios, duets, and string orchestra as well as private lessons. During this time, I arranged around 20 rock/pop songs for the string class. Each arrangement was performed on stage. I hosted my own string recitals twice a year.+ Read More
Dawn is an amazing performer, theorist, composer, and teacher. It is more than obvious how much she cares about her students and their progress, and that they are taken down the proper path with solid foundations. In addition to outstanding instruction on string technique, Dawn provides a level of theoretical insight that I regularly use to blow the mind of my piano teacher. Having taken music lessons from over 10 instructors for over 20 years, none have taught me as much about what makes 'music' truly music as Dawn has.+ Read More
I started taking violin lessons at the age of 52, and I didn't know a single thing about the violin or about reading music. I just wanted to play a violin! Dawn taught me both of these things in a patient calm way. Now I can pick out songs to play and figure them out on my own! I learned a whole new language! I am forever grateful to Dawn for being my mentor and guide during these past five years!+ Read More
I was at first hesitant, but actually lesson online is just as a good as in person, Dawn can see you and u can see her, she has excellent verbal skills. As well as true talent, there is no other teacher for me , she is amazing.
Dawn is a talented and skilled musician, playing violin (her specialty), viola and cello. Her passion is teaching. Dawn beautifully teaches young children and teens as well as adults (me, at 73). She is patient, but persistent, discernes learning styles of individual students to bring out their best. Dawn has moved to TN; I am in FL, but I want no other teacher than Dawn, so we Skype my lessons very successfully. In my opinion there is no better teacher for strings and for all skill levels than Dawn.+ Read More
