My name is David Wright and I teach singing lessons for all ages, skill levels, and musical styles. All of my teaching is based on three core principles: joy, compassion, and confidence. Finding joy in making music is the foundation of good singing. You’re here because you love to sing, and we’ll work so you love it even more. Your voice is a part of who you are. Whatever you sound like, I’m here to teach you with compassion as you grow into your best voice. Shame is the enemy of progress in singing. Skill in singing is the foundation of confidence in singing. As you put in the work to grow, we’ll work to grow your confidence as well as your skill. I’ve worked with dozens of students at every skill level, and every student grows as long as they put in the work. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned performer, you’ll make progress here. I have years of experience performing and teaching all styles of music: rock, pop, classical, contemporary worship, musical theatre, folk—I’ve done it all! Whatever music you want to work on, you’ll find a good place to work on it here. And if you need ideas for music to work on, I’m here to advise you and help you find something you love. I welcome students of any age—so far my youngest student is 8 and my oldest is 74! I’m very familiar with how the voice grows and changes with age, and we’ll put that knowledge to good use as we work to perfect your singing voice. I’ve had students who are working on recording a studio album, preparing to sing a love song for a spouse at an anniversary party, or simply singing along with the radio or in the shower. Whether you have a project you’re working on or you just enjoy singing, we’ll make sure to tailor your instruction to your goals. I graduated in 2007 from Oregon State University with a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in music education and vocal performance. I am a member of the Willamette Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. I started teaching individual singing lessons in 2011 while I completed my M.Div. at Covenant Theological Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri, and continued when I moved back to Corvallis in 2014. I’ve been making music as both a singer and an instrumentalist for over twenty years in a wide variety of settings, including choirs such as the Corvallis Repertory Singers, leading music at church services both traditional and contemporary, playing in local rock bands including The Barker Gypsies, and singing for classical music recitals.

You'll find few singing instructors more in tune with (as it were) or more encouraging than David. He's extremely knowledgeable about music/voice theory and, as he gets to know your style and personality, will absolutely tailor lessons to your vocal strengths and needs. High recommendations all around!
