I am a private music instructor with over 20 years’ performing and teaching experience. There is so much unique joy in playing a brass instrument, and it is my goal to help my students feel that joy! I tailor each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands, I try to provide lessons that complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. For all my students, regardless of level or instrument, I try to find music for them to play that they are interested in learning while still covering everything they need to get a solid foundation on their instrument. I encourage and assist my students in finding opportunities to perform in solo performances and with other groups. I also pride myself in creating an environment where the students are comfortable asking questions to help improve their playing.
Over my teaching career, I have worked with over 200 individual students. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well. While I now only teach part time, I have years of full-time teaching experience as well. When I was full-time, I worked directly with several Nashville-area schools, including the nationally-acclaimed Oliver Middle School band. When country musician Adam Sanders sought school musicians to accompany him at CMA Fest in 2018, 75% of the brass section was enrolled in my private lesson studio! Last year, competing against hundreds of students from all over the region, my students took second-chair trumpet and trombone at MTSBOA Mid-State.

Sole brass instructor at the Music and Arts Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
In-school private brass instructor for the award-winning Oliver Middle School. Life changes meant I had to leave this fantastic program. I miss it a lot!

David was perfect for my son. Patient, flexible and very talented. We will be using him again in the future!
David was very friendly and patient.
My son really enjoyed his trumpet lesson with David. A very thorough instructor.
David is awesome! He immediately put us both at ease and was so patient and encouraging with my son-- who has no experience with playing music. When we left my son felt proud of what he had learned. It was a great experience!
After just one lesson, my son was even more interested in playing his trumpet. He went home and practiced everything David taught him. David gave him some tips on making the sounds flow more naturally.
The best instructor I have ever had. He worked through all of the stuff I had trouble with, and is very funny.
David taught my daughter when she first decided to play the trombone in middle school band. It takes a special person to work with a moderately motivated, quiet 12 year old girl. He was patient, providing her with plenty of skills to achieve 1st chair without pushing too hard, or the wrong way. However, without his guidance, she would never have attempted to try out for mid-state. He urged her to play music she liked, but also made sure she was exposed to jazz, improv and other styles. He accommodated our ever changing schedule, and probably hid frustration well when she forgot her instrument or didn't practice. We couldn't have asked for a better teacher!Show More
