Acrylic Painting Lessons
Levels taught:Beginner, Intermediate
About David L.
I have a bachelors degree in printmaking and oil painting and spent some time in Florence, Italy studying painting and drawing by studying the High Renaissance masters. Currently I draw and paint in my spare time. I love teaching art as a way to connect with other artist and creative people who like talking about and creating art.
Through introducing or reviewing the fundamental principles in art and applying those to the lessons and exercises I assign for after class hours, you’ll see yourself improve week after week and gain more confidence in your artistic ability. I create a custom syllabus for you to review and work in things you’d like to try, certain mediums or subject matter to make it more appealing to you.
Making art should be fun and restorative! I’m very flexible in meeting your needs and speed at which you want to learn.

The third lesson was pretty helpful. His approach towards drawing is different than what I am used to, but also very beneficial.
David did a good job breaking down how to draw a candle using the grid method. The concept he taught me is really easy to apply and helped me complete my first assignment. He is a good instructor.
Easy to follow. Great visual aids. Looking forward to next lesson.
I've been taking private lessons from David Lavis for six months to better my technique in portrait art. David is a great instructor who takes the time to ensure I've embraced the concepts and that I can demonstrate my understanding on the canvas. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone wanting to better their skills.Show More
I always wanted to explore my interest in painting but as a complete amateur was nervous about actually getting started. Dave was a fantastic instructor: patient, funny, and gave me the tools and confidence I needed to finally start doing what I love. Highly recommend.Show More
