    About David K.

I graduated Fullerton College with an AA in Music and Liberal Arts. Since 2009, I have been playing shows across the U.S. in Clubs, Venues, Casinos and Festivals with several groups. Some of the styles I can play are:  Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Classical, Reggae, Folk, Funk, Latin and R&B. Recently, I published a book through Hal Leonard for the Solo Guitar. I have been teaching for 8 years and have helped many students grow, musically, from ages 5-70. Whatever it is in music you wish to learn, I can help you along your way, no matter what difficulty or challenge you are facing. *** Lesson Details *** I am usually very lenient toward the student. It is up to the student and the parent to schedule in their practicing for the week. I like to work with the student and work along with what they would like to learn (a song, scales, theory, chords, etc..). I also like to give the student some materials they wouldn't practice on their own to encourage more possibilities in their playing. This way, they can learn what they want, but are influenced in opening their horizons. The curriculum depends on the level of experience in the students playing. A beginner will get a beginning book and we will work on it until they are comfortable in reading, understanding rhythms and chords. When a student is intermediate, I like to work on their interests as well as detailing their strengths and challenging their weaknesses. After 3 to 6 months of lessons, with a good amount of practice, you can expect to see a great change in your playing. It also depends on your practice habits. I give enough material in a lesson to work on throughout the week. I have had students that practice minimally and still sound better after 3-6 months, but are doing the bare minimum. I have also had students that sound like they've been playing for 2+ years after such a short amount of time. Again, it depends on your motivation toward practicing when you are on your own time during the week. Of course I am here to help you motivate yourself. Lessons should be looked upon as a fun learning experience and not as a hard duty. *** Travel Equipment *** My instrument(s) and reference guides. They need their own instruments and paper/notebook. *** Specialties *** I teach everyone different, because everyone has a different personality. I can teach Jazz, Classical, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Latin, Rock (sub genres included), Funk, Reggae and R&B.

An Acoustic Christmas was written and recorded a few years ago when producer Michael Vail Blum (Madonna, Pink Floyd) requested that I write my own arrangements for standard Christmas songs. After recording it, I marketed my book to Hal Leonard/Centerstream, which was released about a year ago. You can find the recording on iTunes and the book through Hal Leonard.
