Hi there! My name is David and I'm a professional mandolinist here in Boston, MA, specializing in bluegrass, oldtime, Celtic, jazz, and classical music. I graduated from college in 2013 with a unique bachelors degree in mandolin music performance. While in school, I studied with Grammy-nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner as a core part of my curriculum. After school, I moved to Nashville and taught, toured, and recorded full time. While there, I recorded and released two albums of my own original music. Over the years, I've had the privilege of performing on stage with such artists as Flinner, Casey Driessen, Julian Lage, Mike Marshall, Missy Raines, David Grier, Darrell Scott, Tim O'Brien, and Tommy Emmanuel. I now live in Boston, playing full time with the bluegrass band Mile Twelve, and making weekly Mandolin Monday videos.

I come with a million questions ranging from minute details about playing technique and how best to practice to broad questions about music theory. David fields them all with knowledge and patience. He is not only skilled and accomplished but also has thought about every aspect of mandolin playing, something I value a great deal. With his encouragement I am highly motivated. I would also note that his probably being younger than all of my children doesn't seem a problem at all.

This was my first lesson with David and it met and even exceeded my expectations. He was very patient and gave me some great instruction for a beginner such as myself.

David is an excellent instructor. He has a wealth of knowledge of not only technique, but also the history of mandolin music. He has made many recommendations of music to listen to in order to increase familiarity with the instrument. He is flexible with lesson times and works around around my schedule including teaching relatively late into the evening. He seems to genuinely care about my progress and provides lessons tailored to what I want to learn. I would recommend David to anyone who wants to learn to play the mandolin
