Dave B. discovered the guitar at age 14 and he has been sharing his knowledge for as long as he has been learning. In 18 years of playing, he has received instruction from many talented teachers, played in many bands, and has performed at many great venues and music festivals across the Northeast. He graduated Suma Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in 2007 with a degree in Songwriting and Music Education. Dave offers a well-rounded curriculum to his students, developed from years of experience as a student, performer, and as a music educator. In addition to his core strengths as a guitarist and general music teacher, Dave also has a basic knowledge and understanding of bass and voice theories. Students of all ages will enjoy his genuine enthusiasm and positive attitude and will benefit from his broad knowledge base. Dave believes that music is a life long gift and he strives to lead his students to that discovery themselves. *** Lesson Details *** Students can expect a fun and organized experience during lesson time. A typical lesson would contain both physical and intellectual elements. Time is equally spent reinforcing handling technique, building efficient picking habits and ensuring proper fretting of the instrument as is spent learning to read, write, and perform music in many styles. Dave has a library of texts for students of all levels, all of which he has used for his own education. After 3 or 6 months, a student with little or no experience will have learned to read, write, and perform songs with simple chords and melodies. They will have learned how to hold, pick, and fret the instrument. Students interested in singing will be able to read and sing simple melodies while playing their instrument. Students will also enjoy a basic understanding of how notes construct chords and how families of chords are used to create songs. *** Studio Equipment *** teaches in the library on the first floor of his parents' house w/ seating for parents *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide texts, music stands, metronomes and tuners for lessons. Students are responsible for their instruments, notebooks, and writing implements and are suggested to buy texts, music stands, metronomes, and tuners. *** Specialties *** I can teach a broad variety of guitar performance styles: rock, folk, jazz, classical, country, bluegrass. I specialize in melodic improvisation in all styles. I enjoy William Leavitt's guitar method books and Berklee's theory volumes, but I have read and utilized many texts by other authors.
