University of Washington

Director - Contemporary Music Ensemble • Developed a new contemporary music ensemble for-credit course for graduate and undergraduate students, choosing repertoire that was both challenging and enriching for new performers of contemporary music. • Arranged all rehearsal schedules and performances for performance class and began an initiative of using student-written program notes for all concerts. • Recruited students for ensemble class every quarter, ranging from 6 to 30 performers, depending on repertoire needs. • Arranged performances off-campus as part of the curriculum in spaces such as churches and cafes so students could get experience performing with the ensemble between 2 and 4 times a quarter. • Led a West Coast premiere performance of Bruno Maderna’s multimedia opera, Don Perlimplin with the ensemble. Instructor – Woodwind Techniques • Developed curriculum for a weekly undergraduate and graduate-level course in flute techniques for Music Education majors, including the history of the flute, teaching methods, common practices and issues in elementary to high school students, instrument care, and performance technique. • Taught weekly, 30-minute private flute lessons to each student of the class. The National Flute Association, founded in 1972, is the largest flute organization in the world. Approximately 5,000 members from more than 50 countries join together in person, online, at conventions, informally and in forums, through publications and classrooms, in performance, in friendship and collegiality. Guided by its goals to encourage a higher standard of artistic excellence for the flute, its performers, and its literature, members include leading soloists, orchestral players, jazz and world music performers, teachers, adult amateurs, and students of all ages.

The College Music Society promotes music teaching and learning, musical creativity and expression, research and dialogue, and diversity and interdisciplinary interaction. A consortium of college, conservatory, university, and independent musicians and scholars interested in all disciplines of music, the Society provides leadership and serves as an agent of change by addressing concerns facing music in higher education.
