Teaching since:

I am an avid saxophonist, flautist, and clarinetist with a passion for performing and teaching at the highest level. Since graduating from Temple in 2016, my teaching career has offered me many opportunities in the world of education. From my experience in public schools, to managing my own private lesson studio, I have gained an immense respect and appreciation for the craft of teaching.

I believe in a skill-based learning approach. I encourage all of my students to learn the foundations of musicianship in conjunction with the fundamentals of their instrument to guide them in their life-long music learning.

Music Theory · In studio

Daniel Young's advanced Knowldge and unique style of teaching combine together to make an overall great learning experience for students struggling with music theory. Dan has helped me understand concepts of music theory that I have been struggling with for many years in a short amount of time due to his ideal way of introducing new concepts to a student. He will make sure you have a great foundation to work up from. Overall, he is an amazing teacher, and improvement will be made!

Good first lesson!

Dan is a wonderful teacher. He took the time to talk to me before we started playing to assess my existing knowledge and how we could build on it. He is clearly a passionate teacher which as an educator myself I sincerely appreciate! I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in taking lessons!

I actually met Dan through Thumbtack a few months ago. I was originally hesitant to try taking lessons online, but he had such excellent feedback from his previous students, I had to give him a try. I am glad I did!

Dan really takes teaching seriously. From the second I contacted him through the first few lessons, I have felt like my flute playing is a priority of his! I'm very glad I went the direction I did in hiring him.

I have been taking flute lessons with Dan for the past four months. My technique and improvisational skills have increased dramatically since I started with Dan, and I have seen myself grow as a musician much quicker than when I was getting lessons elsewhere. I also always feels very comfortable asking him any questions that I have (no matter how silly) and I find that he is very good at communicating complex ideas. He's also incredibly kind and patient! I would definitely recommend him to anyone for flute (and saxophone/clarinet) lessons - he's a step above other teachers in the Philly area.

I wish there were more teachers like Dan. He is kind, passionate, understanding, flexible. What I like most about lessons though is the fact that he asks me, "What did you learn this week?" almost every lesson. If you haven't taken a lesson with him yet, do it! You'll be amazed how much you learn.

Daniel is an amazing teacher and musician. As a professional woodwind player, he is an experienced professional who understands and performs all styles of music on the flute, clarinet, and the saxophone family.

As a teacher, Daniel constantly teaches and reinforces great technique required to maximize your achievement on your instrument, whether you are an absolute beginner or have been playing for a years. If your goal is to become an amazing technician on your instrument, Daniel is the teacher for you.

Besides this important facet of an instrumental teacher, Daniel is a knowledgeable and thoughtful improvisor and creative musician, who can help any student learn to expand their creative horizons in an informed, receptive, and guided way. Whether you are interested in becoming a successful jazz improvisor, a blues musician who wants to expand their creative ideas, a pop or indie musician who wants to write their own songs, or someone who hopes to compose and arrange their own music in any genre, Daniel will help you achieve these goals by helping you foster sustainable practice techniques that enable growth outside of the lesson as well as during it.

Lastly, Daniel is comfortable teaching all types of learners, and is especially receptive and effective as an educator of students who have special needs or other learning disabilities. He is incredibly receptive to individual needs, goals, and abilities, so no two students will ever receive the same instruction. Absolutely anyone who studies with Daniel will learn and grow musically, and I cannot recommend him enough.
