Whether you are just looking to learn a new skill or make a living as a professional, I am passionate about helping my students to find their path in life as music makers. To me, this means bringing the music off the page, and finding/playing what has not been written in ink. Music is about more than what is on the page, and through practice and a little experimentation we can turn an okay performance into a great one. Lessons with me will be fun, but challenging work. If you take lessons with me, all I ask is that you come with an open mind and are ready to play some music! I push my students according to their ability and expect them to put in ample practice time so they can have more fun with the instrument and keep improving at the same time. I received my Bachelor of Music from Central Michigan University in 2011 and my master's degree in Tuba Performance at Arizona State University in 2015. I was then selected as the 1st prize winner in the International Tuba and Euphonium Association's Tuba Artist solo competition in May 2016 These days, I spend my day practicing my favorite instrument (the Tuba) and teaching students in various locations throughout the Indianapolis area as well as virtually/online. I also perform with a great band called Hot Horns and we go on tour multiple times every year to play our concerts across the continental United States. I am currently accepting students for Trombone, Euphonium, and the Tuba!

    Experience

    Bass Tuba

    Aug, 2007 - Dec, 2011

    Central Michigan University Brass Band

I was one of the two Eb tuba players in the CMU Brass Band, and was principal Eb tubist for 3 years

    Tubist

    Oct, 2016 - May, 2022

    Hot Horns/Bay Street Brassworks

I have the best job in the world--playing my tuba with a great band and getting to educate students with our educational shows throughout the day when we go on tour. In the evenings, we have the amazing opportunity to entertain wide varieties of audiences with energetic music!

    Substitute Tuba

    Dec, 2010 - Dec, 2010

    Midland Symphony Orchestra

I performed one concert in place of the principal tubist (my teacher at the time) of the Midland Symphony Orchestra (Midland, MI). On this concert, we performed "Festive Overture" by Dmitri Shostakovich and "Symphonic Dances" by Sergei Rachmaninoff

    Section Leader--Sousaphone

    Aug, 2008 - Dec, 2008

I led the section and demonstrated proper marching technique and performance (and memorization) of music for each halftime show. Each week we would learn a brand new show, which was very challenging and demanding work!
